Last Week in Wrestling

Hello everyone and welcome back to Talk Wrestling World, I hope you are all well and good and of course, had an amazing weekend. Personally, I had the craziest weekend known to mankind. Loads of Christmas planning, shopping and very very little sleep which is why I'm so surprised and proud of the fact that I have a blog post going up for you guys today. Now, as you will know if you are a regular here, every Monday I take a look back at the past seven days in professional wrestling. It's one of my favorite posts to write because I get to take a look and chat about promotions outside the WWE and considering my posts are very WWE dominated it means I really do love these articles. I am planning on keeping this a regular thing running through tot he new year and today I have yet another addition. Now, plenty went down last week and there are loads to touch on from returns, Survivor Series card updates, and big big money matches being announced. There's plenty to get through today and I'm hoping to keep things short and sweet. Now, just a heads up, on the Monday after Survivor Series I won't be uploading a Last week in wrestling post because of course on that day instead I will have my review of that pay per view but things will return the following week. As for the next few days, this week I am planning on having an NXT themed week with the majority of posts being based around NXT. The first in this mini-series will be uploaded tomorrow with my RAW and Smackdown LIVE highlights still going up on Wednesday. For now, you can check out any recent blog posts by clicking the links below and finally, you can let me know what you thought of last week in wrestling by leaving a comment below or by dropping me a tweet over at @TezangiVictoria.

WWE News

Returns and Goodbyes

This week in the world of WWE it was all about returns. Over on Monday night, we saw not one but four on-screen returns all of which gave us plenty to talk about. Kickstarting the show we saw Stephanie McMahon make her first RAW appearance since Wrestlemania returning with a huge bombshell. Following the attack from Smackdown, LIVE Stephanie looked to make it clear that that was not going to be happening again and the flagship show will walk out of Survivor Series the overall winners. Making Kurt Angle the RAW team captain she also announced that if Kurt fails to lead his team to victory then his position as general manager will be removed. Now, this is very very similar to what we saw between Stephanie and Mick Foley, something plenty have touched on over the past week but in all honesty, I liked the segment. It lacked originality and it was as we just mentioned, very similar to what we have seen before but if this can be the start to building up Triple H vs Kurt Angle for next years Mania then I'm all for it and I will be writing about this in more detail at a later date.

That episode of Monday night RAW also saw Nia Jax make her return after a couple of weeks away from the ring. There were several rumors surfacing regarding Nia and her current situation/status with the WWE but putting that aside I'm super glad to see her back on my screen and announced as the first women to be joining Alicia Fox for team RAW at survivor series. She's sure to be a dominant force and with a bigger following and stronger in-ring work than her previous Survivor Series match, I'm confident she will make an even bigger mark on the night. Braun Strowman was yet another big name to return to the screen last week when he attacked the Miz and once again made a huge impact. I'm sure most of you will know that I personally did not like what we saw go down at the TLC pay per view and I hated how Strowman was used but I really would love to forget all about that show and focus on what looks to be a growing feud between Braun and Kane. It's something that has potential and really will work in the favor of Strowman in the long run. Braun has also been announced as the latest member of Team RAW for Survivor Series. Finally, Samoa Joe returned to action following a couple of months away from the ring. This was probably the return I enjoyed the most. I've really missed seeing Joe on my screen but I do believe his time away was beneficial and he's now ready to dominate the roster and take hold of that big push I'm sure is now waiting for him.

While we did get treated to plenty of returns this week we also had plenty of goodbyes as release season popped up again. I touched on this during my previous last week in wrestling post but we recently learned that Dareen Young, Summer Rae and Emma had all been realsed. Of course, I was gutted to see Emma and Summer Rae go simply because I really do feel as though the WWE never used them to their full potential and deserved so so much better considering they really could have been a big part of the roster. As for Dareen Young, I was never his biggest fan but he too definitely had more to show. NXT star Lio Rush also found himself in hot water following a tweet he made commenting on Emma's realse. The reaction was something WWE stars such as Peyton Royce and Bray Wyatt got involved in and its rumors that Ruch could have lost his job in the WWE due to these comments. This week also learned that NXT stars Sawyer Fulton and Leo Gao and honestly I'm devastated by this news. Anyone that knows me knows I have been the biggest Sawyer Fulton fan from day one and it irritates me he was given up on. It took the WWE literally years to find something that worked for him and his role in Sanity was the perfect fit, it's such a shame things didn't work out but I really do hope he goes off and proves everyone wrong because he really is a great talent with so much potential and the exact same can be said for Leo Gao.

Things heat up between the Miz and Baron Corbin

One of my personal favorite things to come from the WWE this week is seeing the feud between the Miz and Baron Corbin grow online. The two stars are currently set to go one on one at the up and coming Survivor Series pay per view and the two have done a brilliant job getting everyone excited thanks to their very personal back and forth promos. We haven't actually seen anything go down on TV but the two have realsed several videos directed at one another one of which see's the Miz get a little heated and drop an F-bomb. I love the effect this is having. It makes the feud feel personal and adds that little touch of realism. Corbin and Miz both know how to rub their fellow WWE superstars up the wrong way and doing it to one another make for very entertaining viewing.

Outside the WWE

This week's "outside the WWE" section does actually involve a lot of WWE chat but lets just get right to it. First of all we have the topic of the PWI Female fifty list. This week the list was revealed and we've all had something to say about it. I Checked out the list a few days back and honestly, there's a lot I don't agree with. Asuka's place at number one totally makes sense and I guess I'm okay with it but the placement of the likes of Candice Le'rae and Tessa Blanchard were just something I didn't agree with. The top ten did consist of eight women under WWE contract including Bayley, Sasha Banks, Charlotte and Alexa Bliss. Impact's Sienna also made the top ten.

Keeping on the theme of Impact wrestling, it was revealed this week that Rockstar Spud has left the company which really has got people talking. I personally instantly thought of the WWE Cruiserweight division. Surely this is where Spud is heading. He's a big name, has a big following and bags of charisma not to mention he's proven he can hang with the best in the ring. He would be an excellent addition to the division and most certainly be enough to have me tuning into 205 LIVE every week. This will be something I keep everyone posted on in the coming weeks and something I'm sure I'll be talking about in more detail in future blog posts.

Total Divas also returned last week, however, viewing firgures were very low despite new arrivals Alexa Bliss, Carmella and Nia Jax making their debut for the show.

Finally, the biggest most exciting news from the past seven days, of course, is the huge announcement that at Wrestle Kingdom 12 Chris Jericho will go one on one with Kenny Omega. I honestly cannot believe I was just able to type those words. I wish I could put into words just how excited I am for this match. I woke up to this news yesterday and the mark out I had first thing in the morning was on a whole new scale. It was such a surprise I had to check twitter, check a number of different resources to see if it was true and actually happening. This is big big news and something has shaken the Wrestling community. The reveal was perfect, the feud already feels so personal and so intense and the expectations are huge for this match. I am of course planning on writing a whole post talking about his up and coming match so keep an eye out for that!

And there we have it! That is Last week in Wrestling. It was a pretty damn good and interesting week in wrestling. I'm still loving the build-up to Survivor Series and with Styles challenging Jinder for the WWE Championship and the UK tour still underway, there's plenty to be excited about yet again this week. Of course, you can have your say and let me know what you thought of last week in wrestling by leaving a comment below or by tweeting me over at @TezangiVictoria.
