Last Week in Wrestling

Hello everyone! Welcome back to Talk Wrestling World, I hope you are all well and good and had an awesome weekend. I cannot believe we have reached the middle of September already and kick starting a brand new week. I feel as though the start of the year went very slowly but we reached July and the time just flew by, in fact I've already started partly decorating for Halloween... Anyway, enough about my feelings regarding time, lets talk wrestling. So for the past few weeks I've been uploading my "Last week in Wrestling" posts, posts that basically run through all the news, highlights, updates, best matches and moments of the week and me basically sitting here telling you what I personally think of all of those topics of the week and starting a little discussion there as we prepare for the next week in the crazy world of pro wrestling. Because these posts have been going down so well and because I enjoy writing them so much I have decided to make these a more relevant and frequent thing here on my blog with the plan for these posts to go up every Monday. Now, next week there will be changes to my uploads, instead of a last week in Wrestling post next Monday I'll be uploading my No Mercy Review and Reaction posts but things will return to normal the following week. As for today, we have loads to touch on after a week full of several events, news headlines, and updates and so I'm really looking forward to getting started. I've had a few comments in regards to my mum and her surgery went very well! They were able to remove the cancer and she is recovering at home with more steps and challenges coming her way but as a family we are prepared. As always, any recent blog posts will be linked bellow and you can let me know what you thought of all the wrestling headlines from last week by leaving a comment or by tweeting me over at @TezangiVictoria.

WWE News and Headlines

Miz and Maryse's Big News

We kick start this weeks edition of last week in Wrestling taking a look at all things WWE and we're going to focus on Monday night RAW first. It feels so damn good to be able to sit here and say that I actually really really enjoyed RAW last week. It's so rare that we are given a show that flows well, has matches and segments I genuinely really enjoyed, brilliant storytelling, decent character development and a solid episode in the build up to a pay per view but that is everything we got last week. One of my personal favourite segments of the night came from the Miz and Maryse who announced they are expecting their first baby. Being a fan of both of them and watching the pair on Total Divas and in the ring I could not happier for them and I loved how they announced the news. Meeting in this industry their relationship started thanks to wrestling and standing in the middle of the ring and making such a huge personal announcement was amazing for both them and the fans.

Mae Young Classic draws to an End

Moving over to the Mae Young Classic and as I'm sure most of you will know by now, Kairi Sane defeated Shayna Baszler to take the victory becoming the first ever winner of the Mae Young Classic.  Personally, I really enjoyed the show, I would have liked to have seen more in terms of what we actually got during the show itself. The match was brilliant and I honestly really enjoyed it but I would have liked to have seen a couple of bonus matches thrown in there like a tag team match similar to what was shown during the special episode we got in the middle of the week but I can't complain too much; both Kairi Sane and Shayna Baszler went out there and tore the house down! Bellow I have inserted what I thought of the finale match and the end result and at the very end of today's blog post I will link last Thursday's blog post where I spoke about what I really thought of the Mae Young Classic as a whole.

The past month has been dominated by all things Mae Young Classic. A tournament that saw thirty of the best female wrestlers from around the world take center stage on the look to become the inaugural winner of the Mae Young Classic. The event saw a handful of fantastic matches that really did impress and turn heads as the tournament proved to be massively important for women's wrestling and pushing the next step in the women's evolution.  After eight shows full of brilliant wrestling, strong storytelling, and good character development the classic came to a finale this past Tuesday as Shayna Baszler and Kairi Sane went head to head live on the WWE network. I have no idea how I done it and I honestly think I'm still recovering from the lack of sleep but I was able to say up until nearly four AM to tune into the finale and honestly I'm glad I did. Those two women went out there and made an impact. They both had a strong reaction and as the match grew the respect for both these women grew also. The fans became more interested and invested in the action and I sitting at home was left on the edge of my seat totally gripped. In recent blog posts I've touched on the fact that I had mixed opinions about this match; I've mentioned that I felt as though we would have had a stronger finale if Kairi had been facing someone a little more experienced like Candice LeRae but Shayna went out into that ring looking to not only get the win but prove a point and thats exactly what she did. Throughout the tournament we didn't get to see much of her in the ring with her longest match being around twelve minuets while Kairi Sane competed in some of the best and longest matches of the entire tournament. Shayna however, did in my opinion make the biggest impression. She stayed focused, in character and dominant throughout. She was the bad ass heel with the attitude, drive and skill to destroy anyone that stood opposite her in the ring and she was damn impressive. Keeping all that in mind I was expecting a strong finale but felt as though we could have got something better. In the end however, I really enjoyed the show and loved the final match up of the tournament. There was decent chemistry that seemed to improve as the match progressed. Shayna spent the first half completely dominant working on the elbow of Kairi Sane, a smart move taking away the part of her body Kairi uses the most in her matches. Shayna looked brutal taking apart each section of her opponents body and remained focused. The match very very quickly proved to be Shayna's best and Shayan's best performance to date. Sure it could have been cleaner at parts but I was so so impressed. The match was intense, told a story and I felt how much it meant to both women. Kairi was able to turn things around mid way through targeting the ribs of Shayna and after a number of close calls Kairi was able to hit the perfect elbow drop to get the win.

This time last week it was revealed that Asuka will be joining the Monday night RAW women's divison, you can check out what I think of the news and who I would love to see the former NXT women's champion face in an up and coming blog post!

NXT! NXT! NXT!

Over in NXT this week the name of Adam Cole's new faction consisting of Bobby Fish and Kyle O'Riley was revealed, the three superstars will work under the faction name " The Undisputed Era". Personal opinions? Honestly, I don't really have one. I know right, rare. I like it, it works and it makes sense, I'm sure there were better names  but it's fitting and right now I really like it. I'm super interested in their up and coming work and seeing where the WWE go next with this little faction and watching ti grow. There is some serious room for improvent and the potential for the group is crazy. Recent tapings of NXT showed this very well and I'm really really excited for the next few months regarding these guys. While on the topic of NXT, it was revealed after the tapings recently that Ember Moon and Peyton Royce have been added to the NXT women's championship fatal four way which I'm sure will take place at the next takeover event where they will join Kairi Sane. I know Liv Morgan is a fave for the next name in the mix but personally I would love to see Nikki Cross added but I have a blog post coming up on this topic. And finally, Taynara Conti (Mae Young Classic competitor) has been hinted at joining Adam Cole and co in the Undisputed Era faction.

Last night we also got the very very sad news Bobby Heenan has passed away, I'm sure the WWE will touch on this during tonight episode of Monday night  RAW.

News Outside the WWE

British Wrestling is Taking Over

One of my favourite pieces of wresting news this week came from outside the WWE. This year I've tried my best to widen my content and write about promotions outside the WWE and while I've focused a lot over the years on Lucha Underground British Wrestling is something that has been dominating the industry for the past couple of years and after dedicating the month of January to British Wrestling here on my blog I found myself more in love with it than ever before and so the huge news this week that Progress wrestling will be holding a live show at the SSE Wembley Arena. This honestly is huge news and I couldn't be happier. It's an event I honestly cannot wait for and I for sure will be attending next year. The show will take place on the thirtieth of  September next year sow we have over a year but the news is massive and I cannot wait for next year to roll around! The venue holds up to 12,500 people making this one of the biggest shows in the promotions history!

Keeping on the topic of British Wrestling WCPW have made their Refuse to Lose main event official with Joe Hendry defending his WCPW Championship against my personal favourite Will Ospreay. The story has been building for the past couple of weeks and with more shows to come before the show airs on the second of October I'm excited to see where this goes and even more excited for the match itself which I'm sure will be a highlight of the year. Of course I'm backing Ospreay.
This past Sunday also saw Kassius Ohno go one on one against Joe Coffey at an ICW show. Totally random match but one I'm sure the fans in attendance LOVED with ICW vs NXT it must have been a pretty damn special night and I'm confident it was a killer match between these two amazingly talented men.

Lucha Underground 100

And finally the last thin I'm going to be touching on today is of course Lucha Underground. There was no way I was going to be able to write this post and not include one of my favourite promotions after a brilliant week. I've said it before in previous posts and I will say it again, despite the mixed opinions by people and the controversy I freaking love Lucha Underground. It's different than anything else we have right now and I can honestly say that I enjoy most shows. Every week we are given fantastic matches, crazy good storytelling and roster full of brilliant characters easy to get behind or strongly dislike. This week Lucha Underground celebrated its 100th episode with three epic matches and I can honestly I say I loved and enjoyed every single one of them! The main event saw Rey Mysterio loose to Mantanza. I din't enjoy this match as I thought I would but I was totally entertained and I find myself way more emotionally invested in the match than most this year. A good story with the perfect heel vs face vibe. We also saw Johnny Mundo gain extra momentum and Pentagon Dark continue to dominant and prove why he is a personal fave of mine.

So much went down in the world of pro wrestling this week and with No mercy taking place this up and coming Sunday it looks as though there is another big week ahead of us all. As always, any recent blog posts will be linked bellow and you can let me know what you thought of all the wrestling headlines from last week by leaving a comment or by tweeting me over at @TezangiVictoria.
