Last Week in Wrestling

Hello everyone and welcome back to Talk Wrestling World, I hope you are all well and good and have had a great weekend! Okay, so before we get started today I want to mention that I have changed the order of my uploads this week, today I was supposed to be bringing you the first post in my of the year season but I decided last night to change that around and upload that tomorrow and keep my Last Week in Wrestling post for today. I really enjoy writing these and I'm confident I will have enough time to upload all my of the year season posts in time. If you don't know, every December I dedicate the month to take a look back at the last year in wrestling naming my male, female, and NXT superstar of the year along with my favourite matches, moments and more of the past twelve months also. I love writing those posts also but they are very stressful and time-consuming so I do get a little stressed out and fall behind sometimes but I'm gonna try my very best this year to stay on top and bring you around two to three of the year posts a week! For today, however, we're going to be sticking to Last Week in Wrestling which of course is what I bring to you every Monday. This is where we take a look back at the last week in pro wrestling and run you through some of the best moments, matches, headlines and updates. This week we have plenty to touch on so let's not waste any more time! As always, any recent blog posts will be linked bellow including last weeks RAW and Smackdown LIVE highlights and finally, you can let me know what you thought of last week in wrestling by leaving a comment bellow or by tweeting me over at @TezangiVictoria.

WWE NEWS and Updates

Broken Matt and Starrcade Fail

If there is one thing I’m really looking forward to this week, it’s seeing what the WWE have coming up next for Matt Hardy. After losing a singles match last week on RAW Hardy sat in the corner of the ring looking well… broken. The delete chants and Hardy’s odd behaviour indicated that we may finally see Broken Matt in the WWE something we as fans have been waiting to see pretty much since the night of his return. I’ve mentioned throughout the past couple of months that I personally have really struggled to enjoy the work from Matt simply because his booking has been damn right dreadful. Sure, prior to Jeff’s injury the two were a part of some brilliant tag team matches against the likes of Sheamus and Cesaro but apart from that things have been disappointing. Going down the broken Matt road is exactly the right and best next move and I’m very excited to see where things go next!

Another thing that got a lot of wrestling fans excited this week was of course Starrcade. The Event took place earlier last week and was one of the biggest talking points of the month. There was a huge hype surrounding the show and everyone set to attend was of course super excited! With a huge host of names set to appear including Dustin Rhodes, Ric Flair and the Hardys there was plenty to look forward and of course, the history behind Starrcade made this feel like an even bigger deal, one problem, however, we never got to see it. I understand why this wasn’t put on the network and why it was kept as a house show however it did nothing for us fans. As noted by several people online it would have made far more sense if the WWE had just named their December pay per view Starrcade and did the exact same thing. Night of Champions at this point means nothing with pretty much every pay per view seeing every title on the brand defended it means nothing. I saw pictures of the event throughout the week on Twitter and Instagram, but it was a real shame we all didn’t get to catch the show live on TV which I’m sure would have been a much greater all-around success story.

Jim Johnston Released

This week we heard news of yet another release and this time it didn’t come from the in-ring talent but the man responsible for creating some of the best WWE entrance themes and many fan favourites including the Rock, Ultimate Warrior, The Undertaker, Stone Cold Steve Austin and many more. Jim Johnston has been creating these classic entrance themes and been apart of the WWE for over thirty years and his loss is a pretty damn big one for the company. The news of his release has been all over social media throughout the past week and really has sparked a conversation. Creating themes for the Shield, the New Day, Chris Jericho and so many more (the list goes on) Jim Johnston is a true legend in this industry and I am planning on writing a full blog post listing some of my favourite entrance themes that he himself has been responsible for.

Outside the WWE

Can Bullet Club Sell 10,000 tickets for Indie Show

This week Dave Melter took to Twitter to express his belief that he couldn’t see Ring of Honour selling out a ten thousand seated arena. The tweet, of course, sparked the attention of former WWE star turned top indie star Cody Rhodes who replied believing that it was possible and that he was going to prove it in twenty eighteen.  Throughout the week the Young Bucks, Marty Scrull, and Cody Rhodes have been scouting possible venues with reports confirming that Chicago, London, and San Francisco are among some of the potential venues where this huge must-see event would take place. Cody has also mentioned that his dream main event match for this show would be himself V Daniel Bryan which in itself has driven wrestling fans crazy. I know I would pay serious money to see that very match and with more news surrounding Bryan being able to wrestle again, this doesn’t seem completely impossible. We know that Daniel can wrestle after actual doctors telling him so and we all also know just how badly and how passionate Bryan is to get back in the ring again. This is defiantly news to keep listening out for and honestly, I’m very very excited about future updates surrounding this entire event!

Defiant Wrestling Debut

Tonight will also see the debut of Defiant Wrestling. Formally known as WCPW, the What Culture bred wrestling promotion will make its return tonight debuting the name, Defiant Wrestling. The stacked cared includes must-see matches such as Veda Scott vs Kay Lee Ray for the women's championship, Jimmy Havoc vs Primate for hardcore title and Joe Hendry, vs Martin Kirby, vs Marty Scurll in the main event. I may be live tweeting throughout the show but regardless of if I do or not I will write up my thoughts about the show in a weeks time so keep an eye out for that!

Night Of Champions card Update

And finally, we head back to the WWE for some pay per view updates. The next pay per view will, of course, be Night of Champions presented by the Smackdown LIVE roster and this past weekend we learnt that three matches have been added to that card; Baron Corbin vs Dolph Ziggler vs Bobby Roode for the United States championship, Charlotte will defend her Smackdown LIVE Women's championship against Natalya and the Usos will have their tag titles on the lines against the New Day and Chad Gable and Shelton Benjamin. Again, I will touch on this more in this week's RAW and Smackdown LIVE highlights which will go up on Wednesday.

And that was last week in wrestling! As always, any recent blog posts will be linked bellow including last weeks RAW and Smackdown LIVE highlights and finally, you can let me know what you thought of last week in wrestling by leaving a comment bellow or by tweeting me over at @TezangiVictoria.
