WWE Women's Match of the Year

Hello everyone and welcome back to Talk Wrestling World, I hope you are all well and good and are having an awesome week as per usual! So, we are still going with of the Year season and I have to admit I'm slowly losing motivation the closer we get to Christmas but the plan is to keep going and get everything uploaded for you soon! I also want to start pre-posting for January also so the pressure is on to get everything done! I honestly have no idea how I was so organized in the past! Anyway, focusing on today and our attention falls right back to the women's division. I have already listed my top five female talents of the year with Alexa Bliss listed as my twenty seventeen female superstars of the year and of course, the link to that post will be bellow. Today, however, it's time to focus on in-ring performances as I list some of the best matches from the women's division this year! It has been yet another huge year for women's wrestling all around and the WWE has maintained it's high standard from the division. There really has been a list of epic matches and fantastic performances and I cannot wait to get into all of that very soon! This post does include women's matches from RAW, Smackdown LIVE, and NXT. I will also be listing some honorable mentions at the very end of the post also! As always, any recent posts will be linked bellow including my NXT match of the year and WWE Female Superstar of the year! Finally, you can have your say and tell me what your WWE women's match of the year is by leaving a comment bellow or by tweeting me over at @TezangiVictoria.

This post does not include matches from the Mae Young classic and instead links to where I discussed that event in detail will be listed bellow at the very end so check those out!

Paige VS Sasha Banks

Okay, so this one is a little bonus entry but I had to include it in today's blog post as it really was one of my personal favorite matches from the women's division this year. It was last month that we saw Paige make her much-anticipated return to the WWE and bringing Sonya Deville and Mandy Rose along with her things have been shaken up in the women's division over on Monday night RAW and I have to say that I am loving it! The promos, segments, and beatdowns have been fantastic but it was Paige's in-ring return only a couple of weeks ago that I enjoyed the very most. The majority of the WWE universe was looking forward to this and with the former champion taking on Sasha Banks it was clear that things were going to be very interesting and must see. Thankfully the women were given one of the longest matches of the night and they took full advantage. With the crowd totally invested in the action Banks and Paige delivered yet another brilliant contest. Everything about this match was so strong from the spots to the outside work to just how well they actually booked a heel. These two have been apart of strong matches against one another in the past and this truly is another to add to the list.

Charlotte VS Bayley

Throughout their NXT Careers, Bayley and Charlotte took part in a number of fantastic matches that changed the face of women's wrestling and kick-started a revolution. Wheather it is against one another or a different member of the roster these two proved to be the best and at the start of this year these women once again collided in the ring to present fans with a feud that made sense worked and delivered solid in-ring performances. The chemistry between these two competitors is fantastic and with their story really going down as a hit there is no denying just how well their work really was. Matches both on pay per view and Monday night RAW stood out but it was the night Bayley was crowned the new RAW women's champion that grabbed my attention the most. It was a back and forth contest that showed both women to be two of the best in the game but it told a true story of the Queen veteran vs the underdog and with Bayley still over at this point it made sense and worked. Sure there are things I would have changed during this story but everything for me was solid and I honestly really really enjoyed this performance, one of the best from Bayley since her main roster call up and one to watch to remind yourself why once upon a time you really were obsessed with this women!

Ember Moon Vs Asuka

One of the standout feuds of the women's division this year was hands down Asuka vs Ember Moon. Two of the biggest women in the division it's these two that have continued the evolution down in NXT, raised the bar and changed the game even more. Both considered to be extremely dominant and athletic their collisions never disappointed but it was at NXT Takeover Brooklyn we got the best performance from their feud. Feeling as though this would be Moon's last chance at capturing gold for a while but with both women also appearing as though their main roster call-up was not far away this was an interesting match that I found myself totally invested in. I honestly didn't know what to expect from the end result. It felt as though Moon was the right women to dethrone the empress of tomorrow but after a dominant year I also couldn't see Asuka being defeated just yet and she wasn't. The two took part in what was an intense and athletic collision that went down a treat. We were given more of a reason to pay attention with their story being given the depth it needed and the quality of the wrestling, of course, being even stronger than their previous one on one. You could feel how much the win meant to Ember and while she didn't get it on this night their story was highlighted as one of the best to come from the division and they both proved to be the best of the best.

Alexa Bliss vs Charlotte

Looking back at the past year in wrestling we really have seen yet another excellent twelve months for the women of this industry. As I pointed out earlier in the month the two female standouts in the WWE this year for me were Charlotte and Alexa Bliss with Bliss being crowned my twenty seventeen Female superstars of the year. She was also highlighted as one of the most improved stars of the year and honestly, it was this match that really showed just far she has come as an in ring performer. While this match may not be listed as one of the best of the year from the divison by many others I really do feel as though it deserves to be recognized and was honestly one of my personal favorites. It was here I really noticed just how far she has come as an akl round star and there is no denying that it was here Bliss was pushed furthest and showed the most of her move set. Charlotte is without a shadow of a doubt one of the best female wrestlers in WWE history and this year she has continued to prove that. This was also one of her standout matches of the year and it was brilliant seeing the Queen push the goddess to her limits. The match was a perfect length and I found myself completely invested. This was a battle of two of the best and biggest names in the women's divison today and the leading faces on both rosters and it was a total success.

Women's Money in the Bank Ladder Match

This year we were finally given a women's money in the bank and boy did the women of Smackdown LIVE take advantage of this huge opportunity. A risk, this was something that could have gone horribly wrong but it was a success as all five women proved they really are capable of doing everything the male stars can do. For years I and so many other fans have wanted to see a money in the bank ladder match for the women's division and it was a huge step forward in the women's revolution seeing it actually take place, with even bigger signs of booking for the female stars becoming more equal and identical to what we see from the male stars. I do believe that match could have been even stronger but this was a brilliant use of the time they had. ! The first was... a disappointment to say the least. Shorter than expected and James Elsworth actually unlocking the briefcase and winning for Carmella the match did not go down well and was far from what the fans wanted to see. However, the controversy did lead to a rematch and on an episode of Smackdown LIVE Carmella, Charlotte, Becky Lynch, Tamina, and Natalya once again competed in a MITB ladder match to crown the first ever Miss Money in the bank,. There is no denying that the second time around was a far better outcome. The wrestling was better, the spots were better performed, and the closing moments were far stronger and more entertaining. I found myself completely hooked from start to finish,  there was a good story being told throughout and the fans both in the arena and at home were so invested in the action. We had some brilliant spots, each women had a place and a role to play and the closing moments were so well done. With Becky Lynch knocking Ellsworth off the ladder we really got to see just how over she is with the fans being completely behind her but Carmella was so easily the right winner and seeing her climb the ladder herself to retrieve the briefcase was such a great moment. The match was fun, exiting, it elevated the Smackdown Women's divison to new heights, proved a huge point that women can compete in any kind of match, and has opened so many doors for Carmella in particular not to mention the match allowed Tamina and Natalya to finally have their moment and standout.

Nikki Cross VS Asuka (Last Women Standing)

And finally, in at number one and my two thousand and seventeen WWE Women's match of the year comes from the land of NXT once again this time at the hands of Nikki Cross and Asuka. Since arriving on the scene, Cross' obsession with the NXT championship has been made perfectly clear and throughout the year we have seen her given multiple shots at the title especially in fatal four-way action at Takeover events, however, the one performance that stood out the most without a shadow of a doubt her last women standing match against Asuka on an episode of NXT. Main eventing the show these two women proved to be two of the most barbaric, fearless and intense stars on the roster and standouts of the women's division. They yet again raised the bar and introduced a new side of the women's revolution. Their mini-feud grabbed fans attention for the sheer reason it was so different. The story wasn't taken over the top but it was enough to make an impact. The spots throughout this match were fantastic but it was the passion from both women and the in-ring chemistry that made this match so special. You could feel how much both competitors wanted to walk out as champion and it was one of not many times that we as fans genuinely believed Asuka could be dethroned considering it wouldn't have involved a pinfall of submission ending, however, the empress of tomorrow retained her title after both women went through the announce table. When I take a look at what we got from women's wrestling in the WWE this year it's clear nothing topped this contest and it had to be placed at number one.

And there we have it! That is my list and it's Nikki Cross vs Asuka that ranks number one as my WWE Women's match of the year. As always, I would love to know what you guys think so feel free to leave a comment bellow or tweet me over at @TezangiVictoria telling me what has been your faves and what you would have put as number one.
