The Usos vs The New Day (Hell in a Cell)

Throughout two thousand and seventeen, the Usos and The New Day engaged in multiple epic collisions. Their encounters were some of the best matches to come from the tag team division and their feud was hands down the best to come out of tag team wrestling up on the main roster this year. Choosing a favorite from so many really wasn't an easy job considering every time these two teams faced off we got something truly brilliant but in the end, I decided to go with their clash at Hell in a Cell. For me, this was the one that stood out the most and showed once and for all that the Usos and the New Day are truly the best of the best. This was their most original, barbaric and intense match we saw from them and it was totally captivating. Both the Usos and the new looked fantastic throughout and they were able to kick start the show on a high and set the bar extremely high for everyone else on the night to follow, but what they also did was raise the bar in terms of tag team wrestling. This match had everything you could ask for, intensity, brilliant wrestling, fantastic storytelling, it was the collision of two of the best tag teams in the world today and this is the standard everyone should be competing at. I was completely invested and hooked from start to finish and there simply is no denying this was one of the best wrestling matches of the entire year!

Authors of Pain vs The Revival vs DIY

This year has once again seen the NXT tag team division lead the way. From start to finish NXT has been delivering completely with all things tag team wrestling and it was near the start of the year that we saw one of the best matches not only from NXT but of the entire year in WWE and pro wrestling. With the Authors of Pain, the Revival and DIY proving over the past year that they were the best tag teams in the world today the three teams did battle one last time at an NXT Takeover event and raised the bar to brand new heights. The match was full of amazing spots, fantastic storytelling and the chemistry between all three teams was something so special. It was one of those matches that just warmed my heart. So much happened and every single person in the arena and at home were completely captivated from start to finish. The history of the Revival and DIY is one of the best tag team rivalries in recent history. While we didn't have a big story their matches were brilliant and some of the best I have seen in ages. Their knowledge of each other really did shine through in this match. We saw the two teams work tougher in an attempt to take out the Authors of Pain several different times throughout the match and they really did make such amazing moments. The unpredictability was another amazing factor in this match. While it was likely the Authors of pain we're going to win (and so they did) it wouldn't have surprised me to have seen DIY get the win. Altogether it was a fun, exciting, thrilling match that had everyone on the edge of their seats and highlighted all three of these teams as some of the best in the world.

John Cena vs AJ Styles

If you read my top ten WWE matches of the year so far several months back you would have seen that AJ Styles vs John Cena at the Royal Rumble pay per view back in January was considered to be one of the best matches coming in at number two. It was this bout that was the one to top and set the bar for everything to follow as the year progressed. Whenever I would watch a match and deem to be a damn good one I would truly ask myself it was as strong as Cena vs Styles and most of the time it really wasn't. This was a matchup that had everything. The story was strong, there was history between the two stars, the chemistry was brilliant, and of course, the wrestling was on another level. The back and forth action were simply fantastic as two icons of the WWE today went head to head in a classic collision. Topping their previous bouts these guys raised the bar proving why they really are two of the best of the best. It was the night Cena made history becoming a sixteen-time world champion but it was also the night Styles once again showed the world why he really is phenomenal. Their styles complimented each other and with the crowd more split than ever I'm pretty sure this is a match that everyone will be talking about for years to come, a true classic.

Tyler Bate VS Pete Dunne (NXT Takeover)

Okay, I'm pretty sure that for the majority of you reading this blog post-Pete Dunne vs Tyler Bate would be at the top of your list and your two thousand and seventeen WWE match of the year. Why? Because it was bloody brilliant. These two superstars have collided several times this year including their epic finals battle at the UK Tournament but it was at NXT Takeover Chicago that these two had their best match to date. Going head to head once again for the UK Championship these guys stood as the most over, most popular stars in the UK division setting the bar high and after their previous encounter it wasn't going to be easy topping what we had seen from them in the past but they were able to do just that! The live crowd in attendance and everyone at home was left completely hooked from start to finish as these two young stars provided us all with one epic matchup. They honestly did give it there all with many rating the match five stars. It was the first WWE match of the year that I felt I enjoyed as much as Omgea vs Okada and since that night I have rewatched this bout between Bate and Dunne over and over again. Their brilliant in-ring chemistry kept me totally invested and the near falls, close calls, and high paced action made this one of the best matches I have seen in a very very long time in the WWE!

Aleister Black vs Velveteen Dream

And finally, at number one and my official two thousand and seventeen WWE match of the year goes to... Aleister Black vs the Velveteen Dream at NXT Takeover: War Games. I know this is going to divide opinion. When asked on twitter what your favorite match of the year has been it really was a toss-up between the top three matches I have spoken about today and I came close to making it Bate vs Dunne but in the end, I knew there really was for me no match better than Black vs Dream. You guys know that I was obsessed with this storyline. What we got was something completely different to what we have seen in the past. With similarities to what we had previously seen between Goldust and the Undertaker what we had was a dark character in Aleister Black being taunted by the obsessed, egotistical seductive Velveteen Dream. Now, I know some of you are going to say I'm mad but please tell me you felt the little bit of sexual chemistry too! The chemistry between these two stars was truly brilliant. The intensity between these two, the story being told, everything about this was so perfect. The match itself was on another level. This was the night Dream proved once and for all he is far more than a character. His wrestling on this night just fantastic and the entire crowd were behind him despite Black being so over. It was a huge night for the Velveteen Dream and both men left as winners. Not to mention  Black showing his respect for Dream was the icing on top of the cake and the perfect ending to this story.

And there we have it! That is my list and Aleister Black vs the Velveteen Dream takes the top spot! any recent blog posts will be linked below including my RAW and Smackdown LIVE highlights and every post from of the year season.
