Why WWE Fans Want AJ Lee to Return at Evolution
It was only a few weeks back that the WWE announced they will be hosting the first all women’s pay per view. Set to take place in October, the event will take women’s wrestling to a whole new level pushing the Evolution (mind the pun) to larger heights. With the pay per view set to see fifty of the best female superstars of all time take part including Beth Phoenix and Trish Stratus a huge conversation amongst fans has been taking place regarding which names they want to see make a return at this historic event and there has been one name to dominate the conversation; AJ Lee. As one of the most popular female stars in history its no surprise her name has popped up so much but exactly why do fans want Lee back more than any other? Well, that is exactly what we are going to be focusing on today!

The True Start of an Evolution
In all fairness, we all have a different opinion regarding who exactly started this women’s evolution. Many believe that to be fair every single woman who has stepped into that ring has been a part of starting a movement and to an extent that most certainly is true. While Paige and Emma lead the way in sparking arguably the biggest change within women’s wrestling in the WWE but AJ Lee is a woman who got fans talking about a change before an Evolution became a trend. Arriving in the WWE during a time where females were treated and used to poorly within the company, Lee stood out for being different on so many levels. She didn’t sport that sexy, model esc image we saw run throughout the WWE and her in-ring style and skill proved she was a genuine wrestling fan with a true love for this business, something that also wasn’t as strong amongst the women’s division during this time.
Her unique look and style gave Lee and edge and instantly made her a hit with the fans. Sporting a look that was totally opposite to the sexualized image the WWE had pushed within their women’s division was a small start to a big change. Lee’s popularity, her storyline’s, and the impact she had amongst the division was unlike anything we had seen from a female superstar in a long time and so many have made it clear they believe she is the woman who truly set the foundation for a women’s evolution and because of that she deserves to be on this card more than any.
To Challenge Stephanie McMahon
I’ll be honest, I and most people would rather not see Stephanie McMahon in the ring this coming October to face anyone. This show has got to be about far more than higher-ups and that includes Stephanie. However, if Lee was to return there is no denying that her unfinished business (something we will get into more later) with the woman herself would make for an entertaining watch. Sure, I would love to see AJ Step in the ring with a superstar she can genuinely have a good match with but in terms of storylines, there really isn’t a better one to tell between Stephanie and Lee. Throughout her career, AJ made her problems with Stephanie clear as day and it was always hinted more was going to go down between the two at some point but it never did. Whether you want to see Stephanie in the ring or not whether it be a match against her or confronting her this October live at the show, AJ Lee, and Stephanie McMahon could so easily have a standout moment of the PPV.
A Chance to Showcase her Skills Properly
As we have previously touched on when AJ Lee was apart of the WWE we really weren’t seeing the female talent used properly. It was matches under ten minutes, most titles run meant nothing, and storyline’s and characters were incredibly weak. Now, Lee was one of the rare women who was given bigger opportunities; we saw her compete in longer matches than many and her character and storylines genuinely stood out, however, compared to what we see now there is a huge difference and its evident that Lee would be a much much bigger star now because of where women’s wrestling is at. If Lee was to make a return whether it be for one night, a short while, or slightly longer, fans would be able to see even more of Lee and her talent that we never would have truly been able to see back when she was last competing. It’s now she would truly be able to showcase her in-ring skills at a much higher and impressive level.
Unfinished Business
We have already spoken about AJ’s history with Stephanie McMahon but there is no denying that Lee generally has unfinished business with the WWE. From the Bella twins to Stephanie, from higher-ups to teased work with the likes of Bayley, AJ Lee has a lot waiting for her to finish off in the company. It would be brilliant to see her come back even for the one night to close some of those rivalries and put a better end to her WWE career one way or another. Lee has always deserved to finish her career on a better note and there is no better chance to do so than this historic event.
Female Empowerment
If you’re an AJ Lee fan of any sorts you will know that AJ Lee has a true passion for female empowerment. Throughout her entire career before, during, and after her time with the WWE she has spoken of and made her passion for empowering women clear and its been a huge part of why I personally have been a big fan of her. If Lee was to return in October I do believe the true reason would be because of this fact. The Evolution pay per view is totally about empowering women and showcasing women in this business on the biggest stage possible right now and so it makes all the sense in the world for her to show up one way or another.
To Collide with the Best
Since departing from the WWE, AJ Lee has missed out on seeing some amazingly talented women join the main roster. Years, after she left, fans are still discussing dream matches they want to see her in and I myself have my own little list of women I would love to see Lee challenge. From Sasha Banks to Bayley, from Alexa Bliss to Asuka and Charlotte Flair, there is a list of women AJ could genuinely have excellent matches against and Evolution opens the doors for some of those matches to take place. Not to mention with past stars making a return how awesome would it be to see Lee collide with a hall of Famer such as Lita?
Because she’s Just So Damn Good
There really are so many reasons as to why fans want to see AJ Lee return to the point where I could write a part two, however, it’s simple why, we just love her. Lee was so different, so talented, and because of the time she was a part of the company didn’t get to truly showcase her skill and capability. We want to see her collide with some of the best of all time like Lita or some of the hottest and most promising women on the roster today such as Sasha Banks, heck colliding with old fumes including Nikki Bella or Kaitlyn would be brilliant! No one wants Lee’s WWE career to truly end the way it did, and Evolution is the perfect way for her to make changes to that, to close a chapter properly. She is by far one of the most popular female superstars of all time and in all honesty, it may not feel as though this event is complete without her.
