NXT UK: Whats Next?

Two months ago the NXT UK brand held its first Takeover event airing live from Blackpool and unsurprisingly the night went down as a major success! First-time champions were crowned, divisions were given more depth, surprises took place, titles changed hands, and the quality of wrestling was as a high as any other Takeover show. Nearly a month on, however, and its time to look at exactly where the NXT UK brand is heading and moving forward what exactly is next. In today’s blog post I’m going to be exploring some of the possible new avenues for the weekly product as we move forward with a forever developing roster.

Walter is Crowned the new United Kingdom Champion

At last months NXT UK Takeover show international star WALTER made his shock debut for the NXT UK brand coming face to face with United Kingdom Champion Pete Dunne. Towering over the champ and receiving an epic reaction from the live crowd it became clear that Dunne was being faced with a new challenge and his title reign was in great danger. For two years Dunne has been a major part of the UK division and has had an extremely lengthy and impressive championship reign, but it most certainly is time for a change. WALTER is a completely different kind of superstar and with him now sitting as the favourite to dethrone Dunne a change is coming for the main event scene of the UK division and it’s exactly what is needed.

A Hardcore Division is Explored

If you read my review of the NXT UK Takeover event you would have seen me touch on the idea of the WWE exploring a hardcore division for its UK brand and while it may seem like an idea that is very far fetched when we look into the roster it’s a move that could so easily work. With more names pouring in and the likes of former hardcore champions such as Primate stepping into the NXT UK ring the idea of a hardcore title for the brand is becoming an even stronger favourite of mine. The show needs something to separate itself from other WWE products even more and with British wrestling being such a strong place for Hardcore wrestling and the WWE has a strong relationship with ICW introducing hardcore wrestling back to World Wrestling Entertainment and using the UK brand to do so could be an all-around strong idea.

The Women’s Division Must Grow

The NXT UK Women’s division has some extremely talented names and we have seen some awesome matches take place since the debut of the new brand, however, there is no denying that work needs to be done. The division is small, matches are nowhere near long enough, and storyline’s needs to be a lot stronger. The NXT UK Women’s division has some catching up to do with the rest of the female division amongst the WWE, but the UK talent can so easily and quickly do that. With the likes of Kay Lee Rae and Jazzy set to possibly arrive on the scene depth is being added but what we must see in the coming months is a stronger focus on the division, we need longer matches and bigger storyline’s that focus on more than the title picture. For too long the WWE has focused on Storm and Ripley and its time other talents are pushed and given the opportunity to shine.

A Role for Paige

Looking ahead there are many names I would love to see come and join the NXT UK brand. From up and coming UK talent yet to sign to current main roster members who are in need of something new and exciting; a name however that I would love to see find a role on the NXT UK brand is of course, Paige. After stepping down as the Smackdown LIVE GM there hasn’t been much from Paige despite the fact fans do want to see more from her and with Paige knowing the world of British Wrestling better than anyone else it only makes sense for her to find her way to the NXT UK brand. Whether it be handling the Women’s division, the role of a commentator or a future General Manager for the show there are options for Paige on the NXT UK brand and the WWE could massively benefit from adding her to the show.

British Strong Style Activated

And finally, I just must discuss the idea of properly introducing British Strong Style. Pete Dunne, Trent Sevan and Tyler Bate have all played as major stars on the NXT UK roster from the get-go. Three of the biggest names the brand has have all competed in some of the best matches we have seen from the product but what I would love to see moving forward is the formation of British Strong Style as a faction. We have seen exactly that from these three superstars away from the WWE and it does appear inevitable that this is something we will see go ahead in the future and the timing appears to be getting stronger. Whether it be in roles of heels of babyfaces this is an idea that would massively pay off and take the brand to new heights!

And those are just some of the next steps I would love to see the NXT UK brand head in the coming months but what would you like to see from the roster? Let me know down in the comments below or tweet me over at @TezangiVictoria
