Why Seth Rollins Must Slay the Beast at Wrestlemania

After winning the two thousand- and nineteen-men’s Royal Rumble match Seth Rollins revealed less than twenty-four hours later that he will be challenging Brock Lesnar for the Universal Championship at Wrestlemania. A strong fan favourite and one of the biggest names on the roster today, Rollins is a man the WWE Universe want to see crowned as their new champion but what are the chances? Why does he need this win? And what makes this match so important for the future of the WWE and Seth Rollins’ career.

The Future is Now

In recent months the WWE has been pushing the idea of a new start in the company. The McMahon family have promised change and said they are listening to the fans and what they want. Looking at the future of the WWE and what that needs to look like Seth Rollins represents exactly it and it’s about time the WWE stopped waiting on that future. Postponing change isn’t going to work for much long. New names are coming up to the main roster, Monday nights are stacked with top quality talent, the future really is now and the longer Lesnar holds onto gold the longer the wait for that change and for the future.

The People’s Champ

Similarly, to Becky Lynch (this year’s women’s royal rumble winner) Seth Rollins has truly become the peoples champion. From the epic “burn it down” that we hear every single time he makes an appearance to the crowd reaction he picks up on a weekly basis during promos, segments, and matches have all highlighted Rollins to be one of the most over stars on the roster today. It’s this kind of popularity the WWE needs its next Universal Champion. There needs to be a superstar fans truly want to see as champ, a superstar the WWE Universe get behind, and a man who will pick up a huge reaction when he does defeat Brock Lesnar and that man most certainly is Seth freakin Rollins. It must also me mentioned that Rollins represents exactly what the future of the WWE is all about!

Opposites

Reading this blog post you will see that I touch on this a few times but recognising the differences between Seth Rollins and Brock Lesnar is so important here and such a key part in their story. On one hand, we have Lesnar who of course works as a part-timer and makes little appearances and title defences while on the other hand, we have Rollins, one of the most consistent workers in the WWE today working amazing matches on a near-weekly basis. The striking differences in the types of superstars they two are really adds to what makes this build, this match and this story so strong. Rollins is standing up for himself, the roster, and the WWE Universe meaning that such a big victory on the grandest stage of them all will feel even better!

A Part-Time Champion Must Go

I’ve said it a million times before and I will say it a million times again, a part-time champion just isn’t working. Initially, I believe it did. Lesnar brought something new to the WWE as champion and superstars had to fight even harder for an opportunity but the stacked roster and talent coming up deserve more as do fans. We want a fighting champion, we want to see the title and current stars represented and when the champ is barely on screen it creates a lot of problems. Momentum for superstars is fading, there are fewer opportunities and the title as a whole is becoming very forgettable! The Universal title hasn’t had a good run so far and a major part of that is the fact Lesnar, a part-timer, has held it for so long.

The History

Looking at the RAW roster today there are several superstars who appear as legitimate threats to Lesnar and his title. You could put the likes of Bobby Lashley, Drew McIntyre, EC3, and Braun Strowman in the ring with Brock and give them a win that will come across totally legit and pay off but the history between Rollins and Lesnar is what makes this so special. We’ve seen Rollins take the Wrestlemania spotlight away from Lesnar before and walk out with gold, we have seen the pair collide in one epic triple threat match and so this really does make this special. We have seen the rise and fall of Seth Rollins. We have seen come back to the top, we have seen him defy the odds and stand tall and to come out, slaying the beast and burning down suplex city will be pretty damn awesome! Out of everyone on the current roster its Rollins who has the most chemistry and history with Brock adding to the legitimacy of his win.

The Seth Rollins Journey

Over the last couple of years, we really have seen Rollins climb to the very top. From the start of his career, Seth has shown to be the future of the WWE. From his time in FCW to being crowned the first NXT Champion all the way to his days with the Shield and his huge heel turn on Ambrose and Reigns, Rollins has stood out as a major top star but there was a slight dip and over the past year and a half he really has told a story of climbing back to the very top and the main event of Wrestlemania. From his run as the IC Champion to his performance in the gauntlet match and rivalry with Dolph Ziggler to his most recent work with Dean Ambrose. Rollins has been the most consistent star in the WWE right now competing in top quality matches on a near weekly basis, appearing on nearly every single WWE PPV and apart of the best and strongest matches and storylines on Monday nights; all of these moments, the past year has all led to this very moment, to going onto Wrestlemania, slaying the beast and burning down suplex city.

And those are just some of the reasons why I believe Seth Rollins must walk out of Wrestlemania the new Universal Champion. I will in the coming weeks be creating more content like this but for now, I would love to know what you think and whether or not you want to see Rollins take the win in April so feel free to leave a comment below or tweet me over at @TezangiVictoria
