Top 10 Shield Moments of All Time

In a recent episode of Monday night, RAW fans witnessed the emotional end of one of the best factions in WWE history, the Shield. After competing in one last match at this year’s Fastlane PPV the trio finally put to bed their alliance as the Shield with Ambrose leaving the WWE, Reigns only recently making his return and Rollins going on to face Brock Lesnar at Wrestlemania it is the dawn of a new and rather emotional era but in today’s blog post we are going to be re-living some of the best Shield moments of all time as I count down my top ten epic Shield moments ever!

The Modern Promo

One of the first things I realised I loved about the Shield and the element of change they brought to the table was a minor detail but one that most certainly has got to be noticed, their style of promos. Backstage footage of the trio holding a camera directly to their faces brought an entirely different and more personal and intense feel to their mic work, character development and storylines at the time. This was something no one else was doing on the roster and it was a small element of their character I really enjoyed!

Arriving in the UK

The Shield will forever be remembered by not only their amazing In-ring work and dominance but their entrances. The classic Shield entrance is yet another totally unique element the trio introduced that fans of course loved but their arrival to the London 02 Arena five years ago in an aeroplane will forever go down as one of the coolest and most memorable entrances of all time. This was an epic moment that gave the trio none of their most talked about moments.

The Reunion

Back in two thousand and seventeen Shield fans rejoiced in one of the most memorable, exciting and heart-warming moments in Shield memory. After Rollins initial turn on Reigns and Ambrose, it had been years since the trio stood united together again until taking on the Miz and surprising fans on an episode of Monday night RAW in twenty seventeen shook the WWE Universe. Rumours had been surfacing for weeks regarding a Shield reunion, but nothing could take away how amazing this moment was. As both Rollins and Ambrose individually came out to standout alongside Reigns the arena was buzzing with excitement and the energy in the room completely shifted. It may have been a short-lived reunion but what an exciting moment this was!

Brief Reunion

Now it may have been a couple of years before the Shield stood united as a trio in the ring together again following their initial split but during that time before fans did witness several little moments that saw the Shield stand together again very briefly and the best example of that was during the Payback two thousand and fifteen PPV which saw Rollins defend his WWE Championship against Roman Reigns, Randy Orton, and Dean Ambrose fans witnessed the trip temporally form an alliance by taking out Orton in  a classic Shield triple powerbomb. It was a very short-lived brief reunion, but the crowd went crazy for the spot and reminded fans of the good old Shield days we massively missed!

The Evolution Rivalry

Throughout their time together, the Shield took part in an array of awesome storyline’s and competed in several standout six-man tag team matches that went down as all-time greats for the WWE however, one of their best storyline’s saw them collide with another all-time great faction in Evolution. The reunion of Evolution was an awesome moment especially for a fan like me who grow up totally obsessed with Evolution but with the Shield’s massive popularity it was amazing to see just how much times had changed and just how much the WWE Universe stood firmly behind the Shield. The PPV matches we got during this rivalry have gone down as some of the best performances for each Shield star and truly highlighted how strong these guys were as a team and how talented of pro wrestlers they are. The story may have seen the end of the Shield take place, but it also showed how good they were as a team and shined a light on the change of times in the world of WWE and factions.

Turning on the Authority

The Shield spent a great deal of their first couple of years with the WWE working as heels and what a fantastic job they did, taking out some of the biggest and best stars of all time and taking out anyone who stood in their way, dominating the WWE but when the trio took a new direction on an episode of Monday night RAW in two thousand and fourteen it marked an exciting new time for the dominant trio. Turning on the Authority/Corporate Kane and saving Jerry the King Lawler from an attack the Shield turned babyface for the first time in an awesome, Goosebumps moment.  The turn was 100% the right direction to take the trio in and they transitioned into a new role effortlessly with fan backing them completely during this awesome moment.

Vs The Wyatt Family

Writing this in twenty nineteen I must be honest, I’m still frustrated at the fact the WWE never did more between the Shield and the Wyatt Family. As two of the biggest factions in recent WWE memory, their collision at Elimination Chamber twenty fourteen was one of the best matches the WWE has seen on the main roster in a long time! This was an exciting, action-packed match with every single star standing out and showing what they can truly do! It highlighted the future of the WWE and what the company has coming in the years ahead and what an exciting glimpse into the future we got here! It’s a shame the WWE didn’t go ahead with a full-on rivalry between the two factions heading into Mania at this time, but this will forever go down as one of the best six-man tag team matches of all time.

Shield Gold

From the moment the Shield made their debut the trio were making one heck of an impact and weeks into their arrival it was clear these three young men had a huge future ahead of them and at the Extreme Rules PPV back in twenty thirteen the WWE showed just how much potential they possessed and how much dominance they had on the roster by putting gold on all three stars in one night. With Rollins and Reigns capturing the Tag Team titles and Dean Ambrose becoming the new United States champion it was the night of the Shield as the trio completely took over, captured their first main roster gold and sent out yet another huge message. These were new days in the WWE. Shield days.

Their First Win

After making their huge and shocking debut at Survivor Series in two thousand and twelve the Shield went on to compete in their first matchup at the TLC PPV on the same year taking on the team of Ryback, Kane, and Daniel Bryan. This for me was one of the best Shield matches of all time! It had everything you could ask for and was the perfect way to introduce the Shield to the WWE universe and after such an amazing performance everyone was buzzing about these three new superstars.

The Debut

And finally, going down as my all-time favourite Shield moment is their debut. I know, it’s not a unique pick but it just had to top the list for me. This was one of the most exciting and unexpected debuts of all time. No one saw this coming and that is a very difficult thing to pull off in the age of social media where nothing stays a secret. It was the first time we saw NXT stars make a huge impact on the main roster, the kick-started a new era in the WWE and with so many fans not knowing who they are it just made everything even more exciting and every time I watch this again, I have chills and a racing heart! This was the start of something very special.

And that is my list! Wow! In all honesty, there were so many other moments I wanted to talk about today and it was hard narrowing the list down to just ten, but I think that further speaks of the impact these guys had as the Shield! Make sure to leave a comment on tweet me over at @TezangiVictoria telling me your favourite Shield moment of all time!
