Six Reasons Why Johnny Gargano Should NOT Move to 205LIVE

In recent years NXT superstar Johnny Gargano has become one of the most exciting and interesting superstars to watch in the WWE. An important figure in the future of the WWE, Gargano has gone from strength to strength making the transition from a brief tag team appearance on an episode of NXT to one of the biggest stars in the black and gold brands history! But with rumours suggesting the former champion could be making a move to 205LIVE many fans are concerned as to what awaits this top star and whether he is about to become the next NXT flop. In today’s blog post we are going to be looking at why moving him to the Cruiserweight division is a bad idea!

Track Record with Top Talent

Since the return of the WWE cruiserweight division and the debut of 205LIVE fans have witnessed top talents including the likes of Neville, Austin Aries, and Hideo Itami grace the roster all of which have fallen and currently are no longer working with the WWE. One of the main reasons I and so many others do not want to see Gargano make the move to 205LIVE is for this exact reason. The WWE has a terrible track record with NXT and top talents who make the transition over to the cruiserweight division. Gargano has spent many years and earned the respect of fans and effectively become one of the best in the business today and seeing him go over to 205LIVE could see all of that taken away, his credit gone and quite possibly see him exit the company in a matter of short years.

Lack of Exposer

A major problem I personally have always had with 205LIVE and how the WWE conduct its cruiserweight division is their lack of exposer. Despite such a talented roster capable of putting on epic matches, the WWE give these guys an hour a week and no appearance on either or RAW or Smackdown LIVE. The chances of these talents showing up on either brand for a one-off match is incredibly slim and their PPV time is always short lived and often left for the kick-off show. Gargano has spent time main eventing NXT Takeover events, being apart of some of the best matches in WWE history and to go from that position to barely make it on PPV unless he is the cruiserweight champion and a minimal audience is a serious problem and something no fan wants to see.

Main Roster Opportunities

Looking at both RAW and Smackdown LIVE it's clear that both brands are jam-packed full of amazing talent! It’s the busy and most stacked roster the WWE has seen in years and with that fans have an array of dream matches and rivalries on their list many of which include Johnny Gargano. Moving him to 205LIVE means we would most certainly witness some amazing encounters (if you are a loyal viewer of 205LIVE) however, the lack of exposer as we just mentioned would be a problem and there is no denying that the main roster has some pretty awesome must-see matches awaiting Johnny Wrestling. From looking at becoming either a future IC or US champion to colliding with names such as Shinsuke Nakamura and Finn Balor, turning their careers around in the processes and reminding fans of how great they are to dream matches that will show the world why Gargano is one of the best on the scene today with opponents including John Cena, AJ Styles, Seth Rollins, and Cesaro amongst so many more. Gargano has so many amazing opportunities awaiting him on the main roster and there is no denying that with the right booking he could become a little secret gem on either brand.

A Step Backwards

Remaining on the topic of the main roster, fans in recent months have witnessed Gargano appear on both Monday night RAW and Smackdown LIVE alongside Tommaso Ciampa already making an impact and gaining momentum; now, while Ciampa is of course out of action recovering from his neck surgery it doesn’t mean that Gargano has to take a step backwards also. He has already made these appearances and made an impact and going over to 205LIVE does to many appear to be a step back.

Unfair Opportunity

With Gargano’s track record its clear that the WWE could very easily welcome a major push for him if he is to indeed make his arrival on the 205LIVE roster including becoming champion before SummerSlam season hits and while I would love to see him become champion if he is to make the move here I can’t help but feel for the rest of the roster. As we have touched on already today, the Cruiserweight division is jam packed full of amazing talent who have been waiting for their opportunity from the get-go, adding Gargano to the roster pushes these talents back even more. Before adding more top talent to its roster the WWE need to learn to use what they already have and stop wasting the amazing superstars and the talent they possess who already competing every Tuesday night.

205LIVE’s Current Problems

There really is no denying that 205LIVE has come a long way over the past year and a half. Names including Mustafa Ali, Cedric Alexander, and Buddy Murphy have played a huge role in creating a spotlight for the show and getting people talking and as a result, we really have seen some fantastic matches from the division and the weekly show, however, there are still problems 205LIVE face. From lack of exposer, not enough PPV time, weaker storylines, not enough screen time for most of the roster and the fact that this is still considered one of the weaker shows by fans. It’s 205LIVE the WWE universe are most inclined to skip with so much WWE content every week. Gargano moving over to the roster will do him no favours. The show simply isn’t strong enough nor respected enough by the company for Gargano to truly make an impact and kick start his main roster run better.

I said it in the intro, Johnny Gargano is one of the best on the scene today. Of course, there are some great things Gargano can bring to 205LIVE but with things not looking promising I can't help but feel as though this would be a terrible and risky decision.
