Six Reasons Why You Should be Watching IMPACT Wrestling

Since I started my blog I’ve spoken about my forever changing opinions on Impact Wrestling. While the talent has always been there and the women’s division in particular for being miles ahead of a women’s evolution, the company has without a doubt struggled. Dubbed as a weaker version of the WWE the problem has always come back down to the fact Impact Wrestling doesn’t have that unique selling point. The WWE is the WWE, Lucha Underground represents a whole different style of pro wrestling, and ICW is the modern-day version of ECW in many ways yet TNA has struggled to highlight itself as something different. However, in recent weeks I have really been enjoying tuning in on a Friday night (the day its aired in the UK) with my mum and nan of all people watching the product and I’ve honestly been left completely entertained week in and week out. A month into watching the show consistently and I have created a list of six reasons why I’m currently loving Impact Wrestling and why you should be watching too!

‘X’ Attacker

The story of the X Attacker has honestly been one of my favourite things Impact Wrestling has provided over the past month or so. I love a good mystery storyline, something that leaves you on the edge of your seat, hooked, something that starts a discussion and has you waiting for and wanting more! This is something that can be difficult to do nowadays especially with social media so easily running surprise returns and debuts which is why something like this can often be anti-climatical in the WWE, however, the “X” Attacker story Impact have been running over the past several weeks has really had be griped. With multi stars attacked backstage fans were left wondering who was behind the attacks and why. In a recent episode, it was revealed that Killer Kross was the man behind the brutal backstage attacks taking place in recent months. While his story Is still growing, and I personally wasn’t a fan of how he was booked recently the idea of an “X” attacker was perfect and something that really did keep me entertained. I am hoping that the company can keep doing the right thing with Killer Kross as its evident he has great potential to do amazing things in the company!

Everything Sami Callihan Does

There is no denying the fact that Sami Callihan is a rather controversial star on the wrestling scene however his talent is something that also cannot be denied. A skilled in-ring performer with bags of experience Callihan has proven throughout his career to be master at mind games and his character development has been fantastic. Over the past year in particular, fans really have been able to see more of Callihan and his intense character work and being apart of Impact means he gets to showcase all his skills in front of a wider and more mainstream audience. His rivalry with Eddie Edwards has been a genuine highlight for me this and as we start to see even more go down between Callihan and Pentagon JR I have to say there really is no signs of Sami slowing down anytime soon and he remains a key reason as to why I tune into Impact Wrestling every week.

LAX Drama Heats Up
LAX has by far been one of my favourite factions for a long time and unfortunately because I haven’t always written much IMPACT content I haven’t been able to talk about LAX but that is all about to change. The story involving Konnan and King has been very interesting and in a recent episode, we finally saw King's true colours after he admitted to being behind the drama involving Konnan. We then saw the rest of LAX turn on King which didn’t end well for them. The new tag team champions, as well as Konnan, were attacked by the original LAX in Homicide and Hernandez. The surprise return was a brilliant way to conclude the show that week and the developing story here really does make for must see! This a heated, personal, entertaining storyline I and so many other fans are totally invested in and I cannot wait to write more content on this in the coming weeks!

A Developed Knockouts Division

In the coming weeks I do have a big piece going up that looks deeper into the Impact Knockouts division where I discuss why they continue to be the leading division in the women’s evolution; however, for today’s blog post I felt as though I just had to mention the knockouts because they really are a reason why I’m enjoying Impact wrestling. Every single woman seems to have their place and is shown on a regular and smart basis. The booking make sense, everyone is involved in something and new arrivals including Tessa Blanchard and Keira Hogan along with gripping characters like SU Yung on top of the fact we have Maddison Rayne Chasing after gold once again there is plenty to enjoy and while I do have an issue with the length of the matches we see from the Knockouts division I have been enjoyed the storyline’s and seeing how they are booked in comparison to the WWE Women’s Division.

Character Development

One thing Impact Wrestling really do amazingly well is character development. From the X Attacker to Jimmy Jacobs and Kongo Kong to newcomer Brian Cage, these talents are given the spotlight they deserve, the right direction, and week in and week out we are seeing more character development. Impact are forever introducing new names both fresh and old fan favourites including past WWE superstars as they always have done and what they continue to do so well is character development along with working well with talent away from Impact including Lucha Underground stars who have really begun to shine brightly within impact including Pentagon JR and Fenix.

Flashbacks

Now, there was a time Impact/TNA was booming. The roster was stacked and the talent, as well as the promotion, had great potential. In recent years the company has struggled a tad but one of the highlights of the weekly product is seeing old matches shown during the show. It’s a concept that does divide opinion considering it shows matches in a time where the company was far stronger the roster owning more depth but for me personally I love the touch of nostalgia. It’s fan little flashback part of the show, easy to watch, entertains the old school fans while educating the newer fans and splits things up. I always look forward to seeing what match we’re going to see take place again and its fun to watch those matches with friends and family without thinking about booking and backstage politics.

Everyone has Their Place

We may have just touched on how stacked the Impact Roster used to be but let’s be honest, there is a lot of talent currently working in the Impact Zone. From names including old school legends like Tommy Dreamer to controversial stars like Sami Callihan and Eddie Edwards to promising up and comers and fan favourites in Tessa Blanchard, Pentagon JR and so many more.  Each one of these stars has their place in the company and the all-round booking is pretty damn strong. We’ve mentioned the brilliant character development we see for new stars but the general booking is sensible. We’re getting something a little different each week and because there is so much going on there is so much new and exciting content each week. I personally enjoy the unpredictable factor that runs throughout the promotion. Moss chasing after Austin Aries’ championship, Eli Drake’s forever standout moments, and the general diversity in characters all grab my attention. Everyone does have a place and there is now a sense of the Impact Zone bringing something different to the table! ( I also have to mention I much prefer the layout and how the Impact wrestling website is handled also!)

There is still some work to be done over in the Impact zone, no one is denying that, however, I’ve got to say that I have been enjoying the product massively! I have most certainly been very entertained every single week and I do feel as though its time to cut them some slack and actually pay attention to some excellent work from a solid, talented, and growing roster.
