WWE VS Impact Wrestling: Best and Worse Rivalries of the Past Month

While the WWE remains the centerpiece in the world of pro wrestling Impact has always been right behind waiting to take the spotlight and often has in fact done so thanks to a strong roster, entertaining storylines, and brilliant in-ring action. Throughout the years Impact has had its ups and downs and struggled massively yet the company has forever bounced back and as of right now the landscape that is Impact Wrestling is on its way back up and looking very strong! With both the WWE and Impact delivering to such a high standard what are the best and worse storyline’s currently been provided by both brands? Let’s dive in and take a look at this topic.

(This post was pre-posted and so some details may no longer count but an updated version of the post with new feuds will be uploaded in the coming weeks!)

Bobby Lashley vs Sami Zayn

Quite possibly one of the weakest and most disappointing storylines to come from the WWE so far this year’s, unfortunately, falls at the hands of Bobby Lashley and Sami Zayn. Following Wrestlemania, the former Impact star made his return to the WWE but despite high expectations from fans Lashley has struggled to make the impact so many expected to see. His booking has been complex, to say the least with minimal loses but contests that do not put him in a position were a great deal of momentum can be gained on top of a lack of meaning behind them. His constantly being thrown in decent tag team bouts but is yet to find himself competing in a show-stealing singles match. His feud so far with Sami Zayn has been the most consistent thing we have seen upon his return, yet the entire concept has been weak. The story has focused on comedic angles that in ways suit Zayn’s new role within the WWE yet has done next to no good for either star and unlikely to do so in the long run. While their in-ring work has great potential the storyline has disappointed many and not been the start of a new run with the WWE fans expected to see from Lashley.

The Rise of Su Yung

One of the brightest stars in the Impact women’s division right now is, of course, Su Yung. The company has done an excellent job in introducing her to the division and so far despite the short matches her character has stood out brighter than ever and the story they have told has been extremely gripping and well done. Bringing something new and haunting to both Impact and the women’s division, Su Yung is the woman to watch and as the current Impact women’s champion, she is at the top of her game. The story told between herself, Ally, and Rosemary has been a highlight for mainstream women’s wrestling and with so much yet to come from it the future is looking very bright for Su Yung, the story and the women’s division of Impact Wrestling.

Shinsuke Nakamura vs AJ Styles

It may be a little harsh to name AJ Styles vs Shinsuke Nakamura as one of the weakest/worse storylines in the WWE right now but in comparison to what this could have been and what we are seeing elsewhere, there is a valid argument to be made. The story has been based on betrayal which works of course; Nakamura turned his back on Styles on the grandest stage of them all but for some reason, the story hasn’t been connecting with fans as much as many may have wished for. We haven’t seen storytelling strong enough to leave the WWE universe fully invested and instead we have seen so much overshadowed. They haven’t touched on their history enough nor what the pair have done prior to their WWE debut and as a result, the general feeling of something missing has been evident throughout. The match quality has increased and they are delivering in that area but the storyline has fallen flat at times and it’s a real shame.

Sami Callihan vs Eddie Edwards

For months Sami Callihan and Eddie Edwards have been butting heads in a heated, personal, and very entertaining rivalry. The storytelling has been strong and the progress has brilliant! We recently saw Edwards challenge Callihan to a straight-up fight in the woods with Final Deletion vibes Edwards didn’t just want a fight but had intentions of murdering his rival. Okay, so the storyline is a touch extreme, to say the least, but these two men have been providing entertaining content that has gone from strength to strength. Their feud is far from over and while the story is very hit or miss with fans there is still so much to look forward to and so many more elements to this feud.

Johnny Gargano vs Tommaso Ciampa

And finally, one of the best told stories in recent wrestling/WWE memory, Tommaso Ciampa vs Johnny Gargano. This is a tale of two former best friends. Two men who know each other better than any other and two men who to many are two of the best wrestlers on the scene today. With their rivalry kick-starting a year ago, the build has been fantastic and while Ciampa’s injury could have hindered the story it, in fact, was apart of what has made this so standout. No rivalry has felt quite as personal and intense as this and the in-ring work we have seen go down between the pair so far has matched exactly what we have seen storyline wise. Gargano and Ciampa have kept fans entertained and on the edge of their seats from the moment Ciampa attacked Johnny to today were we await further collisions.

Both the WWE and Impact Wrestling is as always delivering to a high standard and there is a strong mix of both good and bad storylines from both promotions and today we took a look at just five. With Impact heading in the right direction, there is plenty to look forward to and many stories to keep a close on.
