Five Superstars Who Could Dethrone Pete Dunne

With the first NXT UK Takeover show airing a week ago fans are still buzzing from what was a fantastic night full of awesome wrestling, character and story development alongside both historic and surprising moments. The night's main event is strongly considered by many as a potential match of the year candidate, however, come the end of the night it was the bruiserweight, Pete Dunne who remained on top and still the United Kingdom Champion. With a historic and impressive run as champion still going strong the conversation regarding just how could dethrone Dunn is alive and strong and that is exactly what will be looking in today’s blog post as I list five potential superstars could go on to become the next WWE United Kingdom Champion.

Jordan Devlin

One of the main stars I have been impressed with since the debut of NXT UK has been Jordan Devlin. I’ll admit that when I first set my eyes on Devlin during the first UK Tournament, he wasn’t someone I was a fan of at all nor did he truly grab my attention, however, over recent months, Jordan has taken a great deal of the spotlight competing in memorable bouts and growing to become one of the strongest heels on the roster. Consistently strong, apart of a standout rivalry alongside Travis Banks, an impressive match up against Finn Balor at Takeover, and fantastic character work, Devlin is a young star destined for great things and a man I could very firmly get behind in the conversation of a future WWE United Kingdom Champion. Keeping momentum high, booking strong, and remaining at the consistent level he has done for months Devlin is a serious name to consider when discussion future champions.

Joe Coffey

Despite failing to talk away with the WWE United Kingdom Championship just a week ago at the first Takeover event, Joe Coffey turned heads and proved once and for all that he is a future champion none the less. His performance in the main event against Pete Dunne highlighted him as a major roster standout as the Ironman took part in the best WWE match of the month so far. Now, I do believe there is a list of many superstars who could get their hands on an opportunity before Coffey gets his second, however, after such an epic performance at Takeover, with a story, and such a major reaction from fans it wouldn‘t surprise me to see him in yet another title bout that this time sees him walk out as champion. The win would be huge for the faction Coffey has found himself in, he has already proven to be a worthy and capable champion and I for one would very much enjoy seeing what Coffey could bring to NXT UK as champ.

Finn Balor

Okay okay, so this one is a tad bit far fetched but hear me out. Now, if you read my NXT UK Takeover review you will know that in that post, I mentioned that I believed the WWE should consider sending Balor to the NXT UK brand following his surprise appearance and match against Jordan Devlin as the Takeover event. Now, the decision to move him would, of course, be both risky and controversial but if it was something the company went ahead with then there is no denying dethroning Pete Dunne Could be exactly what fans would see. The transition itself could be a huge career changing and improving moment for Balor however, the sheer wrestling excellence these two could deliver in the ring along with what holding this specific title could for Balor’s career makes this a decision so many would love to see. Finn as champion would take the NXT UK brand to new heights, potentially revive his career and open the doors for many superstars on the current roster to step up and receive a huge push. There are so many positives to this actually happening not to mention Balor being a true representation of the brand and a legit contender for Dunne.

Trent Seven

So this one is much more of a personal pick. I have been a Trent Seven fan for a pretty long time and wanting to see him as WWE United Kingdom Champion has been a dream since the debut of the title itself. As one of the most experienced and unique superstars on the roster, he brings something completely different to the rest of the talents. His true traditional British Wrestling style, age, and current position set him as a perfect contender for future champion and while he currently sits within the tag team division as a babyface switching that up sometime this year is something I would personally love to see. Trent turning on current tag team partner Tyler Bate to eventually set up a triple threat between Seven, Bate, and Dunne also makes for a dream bout as seeing British Strong style battle out for the gold is something, I would pay serious money to watch! I do believe Trent is an important part of the NXT UK roster and I enjoy him in the role he is currently working, however, a push and exploring more of his character and abilities would be fantastic and a run as champion is the icing on the cake! This history between Dunne and Seven as well as the chemistry makes this a must in my eyes!

Walter

And finally, we have the man I personally believe will, in fact, de-throne Pete Dunne, Walter. Debuting at NXT UK Takeover Walter left everyone in the crowd loud and up on their feet and everyone at home both intrigued and very excited. A dominant, standout, and unique character, Walter too is bringing something new to the roster and has already shaken things up before even competing in a matchup. Confronting the champ, the timing, and the reaction is enough to leave fans believing big things are to come from Walter and the thought of him becoming champions appears both inevitable and very exciting. Sure to bring a completely different feel to the title compared to Tyler Bate and Pete Dunne he represents something different from the young stars and the shift and change he would no doubt bring to the table leaves me desperate to see him as champion not to mention the fact he is one of the biggest talked about stars right now as well as the most legit threat to Dunne’s title at this stage of reign.

And that was my list! There are many other NXT UK stars I would love to see as champion one day, but it was these names who for now have stood out the most! Who would YOU have included in this list? Let me know down in the comments below or tweet me over at @TezangiVictoria.
