Five Superstars Who Could Dethrone Bobby Lashley

With Bobby Lashley recently crowned the new Intercontinental Champion and a potential push coming his way the are of course many wondering what the next few weeks/months leading up to Wrestlemania await the destroyer including exactly who could dethrone him. In today’s blog post we are going to be taking into consideration the up and coming superstar shake-up, the state of the current roster, and potential storyline’s coming up and how all of those things contribute to why one of these superstars could be the next champion.

Finn Balor

My personal favourite pick for the man to dethrone Bobby Lashley for the IC Championship is former Universal Champion Finn Balor. History with the champ in recent weeks, the ability to provide a good match with Lashley given more time, and the momentum Balor currently has meant he is a great opponent and contender to the title. Balor has had a strong start to the year competing in standout matches whether it be on PPV, RAW, or even NXT UK and while he may not have been able to defeat the Beast his showing on the night proved he is worthy of being champion not to mention he would be a great option to take the IC title back over to Smackdown LIVE on the night of the superstar shake-up.

Braun Strowman

As of right now, Braun Strowman is a man I am very much concerned about. His momentum is slipping, the WWE has moved him away from the Universal Championship picture and he is lacking in fresh new competition. Looking at the current state of the roster and the build to Mania it appears as though there is one strong option for him, a collision with Bobby Lashley for the IC title seeing him walk out the new champion. It may not be as strong of a win as the one many wanted to see him pick up over the beast months ago, but having history with Lashley, the two showcasing the big guys of Monday night RAW and the potential storyline work we could see from them means this could be a good booking decision that will benefit Strowman greatly. Another favourite to move to the blue brand he’s a great talent to take the title over there but more than anything its vital Braun gets his hands on a big win and a title very soon!

Apollo Crews

Okay, hear me out. There really is no denying that Apollo Crews is one of the most athletic, talented yet underrated and underutilised stars on the roster today and a big part of that was his short time spent in NXT. Moving forward, however, is a talent who most certainly deserves a shot at championship gold down the line and far more time in the ring to show the world what he is really capable of. During his time on the indies Crews was a huge standout and favourite amongst wrestling fans; if he is given the time to shine Crews has every chance of becoming a big star and a shock win over Lashley could be one of the best steps moving forward for him and most certainly a risk worth taking.

Sami Zayn

It’s been a hot minute since WWE Fans last saw Sami Zayn compete inside the ring due to an injury that has seen him need months away from action; however, with rumours suggesting Zayn is close to a return its time to look at what could be awaiting him upon his return and if he is indeed set to make a comeback on RAW then setting his sights on the Intercontinental Championship is most certainly a way to go. Zayn is yet to hold gold on the main roster and bouncing back with his first title run and an impressive set of matches against the destroyer.

Kurt Angle

And finally, I have decided to add a little dream idea in that is most likely not going to happen but for the sheer little dose of excitement, this gives me to think about I just had to include this last entry. We know that Kurt Angle is edging close to revealing to fans he is done with in-ring competition for good but don’t you want to see him involved in one last big storyline? A story that sees Angle look to get his hands-on championship gold one last time could see him go one on one with Lashley at Wrestlemania in what could so easily be a standout match given that the two are provided with enough time to actually compete. The two have a great history, have collided in the past and fans know we could get a great match from the pair. Dethroning Lashley may a little far fetched but one last big win at Mania this year makes for an awesome special moment I’d love to see and sets up a fresh start for the actual title.

And those are five names I have considered when discussing the topic of who should dethrone Bobby Lashley but who would you have included in today's blog post? Let me know in the comments or tweet me over at @TezangiVictoria.
