What the WWE Got Right with This Weeks Monday Night RAW

With the Elimination Chamber set to take place this coming weekend, the WWE had one last episode of Monday Night RAW to get through before the next stop on the road to Wrestlemania. Now, typically I don’t write many blog posts focusing solely on RAW mainly because I struggle to stay awake each week for the full three hours and/or the show doesn’t give out much to write about, however, that could not be any more different this week! A stacked show left fans witnessing title changes, awesome matches and shocking moments leaving us all stunned and in today’s blog post I’m going to be discussing exactly what the WWE got right this week on RAW.

Just Say Sorry

The build to Wrestlemania has been dominated so far by all things Becky Lynch and rightfully so! The man has become one of the biggest names in the company today and focusing on the biggest event of the year so strongly on the former champion makes all the sense in the world. This weeks opener to Monday night RAW so Lynch engages in a segment with Triple H and Stephanie McMahon which saw her suspension lifted and an apology received from the husband and wife duo, however, as always there was a catch. For Lynch to get her Mania match (which she had already earned) she had to apologise to Triple H and Stephanie for her actions the previous weeks and the entire show really did focus around whether Lynch could swallow her pride or lose her Wrestlemania moment. Throughout the night we saw Becky have multiple conversations with an array of superstars including Finn Balor and Alexa Bliss and the entire thing really did add so much to her character, story and build to Mania. The apology she did indeed deliver at the end of the night had a major twist we will get into later on!

Matches that Make Sense

This week, while reading through and live tweeting I realised several fans pick up on the fact that as of late the WWE has really improved in the, are of providing matches that make sense and its something I too have noticed over the past couple of weeks. Instead of the night being jam-packed full of pointless matches simply booked fill up time we are getting matches that have a place, make sense, and build towards something. A prime example of this this week was the triple threat tag team match in which the team to get pinned would enter the chamber match first. Nia and Tamina, The Riott Squad and Banks and Bayley all took part in what was one of the better matches of the night. The women had a great amount of time and the match had purpose leaving fans genuinely interested in the action and end result.

That’s not a Prediction, it’s a spoiler

The mini segment between Seth Rollins and Paul Heyman was an awesome part of this week's show. Rollins delivered some of the best mic work we have ever seen from him and Heyman was, of course, his usual epic self. The passion, the fire, and the determination both in the eyes and voice of Rollins was totally captivating and I was sold on his up and coming title match at Mania with Lesnar during this segment more than ever!

Slay the Beast

Keeping on the theme of Rollins and that awesome segment, the moment in which fans saw Dean Ambrose come down to the ring to utter the three simple words “slay the beast” was yet another cool and memorable moments. The shared love and respect for the industry here were so visible and despite their recent collisions the two both want to see a new champion and the beast slayed. Ambrose had a solid night picking up a win against EC3 and while he appears to once again be adopting the role of a babyface his new attitude is still alive and well and a major hit with fans.

The Revival Become Tag Team Champions

The match of the night without a shadow of doubt came from the tag team division. With Roode and Gable putting their RAW tag team titles on the line I honestly wasn’t sure what to expect here. I’ve never personally been a fan of the alliance between Roode and Gable and have been waiting for the pair to either split or drop the titles from day one. Challenging the Revival did mean that I had a far greater interest in this match for the sheer fact I was desperate to see Dash and Dawson walk away with the titles. The match itself was hands down one of the best contests we have seen from the main roster tag division in a while! Both teams had an excellent showing and this was truly the performance the Revival not only needed but had been waiting to have from the moment they arrived on the main roster. Walking away the brand-new champs was a real special moment for these two former NXT tag team champions. Roode and Gable had an excellent performance, but this was the night of the Revival and finally, we look to see them make a true impact on the main roster.

Charlotte Flair Becomes the Ultimate Heel

As we already touched on, this week's RAW was massively focused around Becky Lynch and whether or not she would apologise to Triple H and Stephanie McMahon. In the closing segment of the night Lynch did eventually apologise but of course, there was a twist just around the corner. In what was a total surprise Vince McMahon made an appearance stating he was the man in the WWE, not Becky and while everyone else may have forgiven her he hadn’t and put into action a sixty-day suspension meaning Lynch would, in fact, miss out on Wrestlemania. Carrying on the chairman proceeded to announce that her replacement and the woman now facing Ronda Rousey at Wrestlemania is, in fact, Charlotte Flair. Now I hope with every fibre in my being that this story will turn around and eventually Lynch will get her match back which I’m sure will happen and so right now we really do need to appreciate the storytelling going into this whole thing! Charlotte Flair just became the biggest heel in the WWE Women’s division right now, she has become the chosen woman, and Vince McMahon has restored his role as the Villain of the WWE. I may not personally be a fan of a triple threat idea but the story work is truly excellent here and what a way to close the night!

And there we have it! That was this week's RAW and for once I can honestly say I really enjoyed the show! But what did you think? Leave a comment below or tweet me over at @TezangiVictoria letting me know!
