Best and Most Controversial Roman Reigns Moments

It was last Fall that fans received the devastating news that former Universal Champion Roman Reigns was battling Leukaemia for the second time and as a result be taking a leave from wrestling. Since then the WWE universe has expressed their respect and admiration for the former champ and while he hasn’t always been the biggest hit amongst fans this is horrific news that has shocked the entire fanbase. In today’s blog post we are going to be focusing on Reigns and looking at some of the best moments of his career celebrating what the major star has achieved already.

His Main Roster Debut

Debuting on the main roster back in two thousand and twelve at the TLC Pay per view alongside Seth Rollins and Dean Ambrose the three stars of the future kick-started an interesting time in the WWE. A breath of fresh air Rollins, Reigns and Ambrose debuted as the shield causing sheer and utter havoc on the WWE’s main roster changing the state of the company completely! Their dominant arrival left fans speechless as the began a new era in sport entertainment and establishing himself as the faction leader this was the start of one heck of a rollercoaster for the Shield and more so Roman Reigns.

Survivor Series 2013

Throughout the early stages of his career on  the main roster, Roman Reigns was established by the WWE as the next big thing in the company and this was shown throughout his booking on weekly the product and on pay per view (not to mention his role within the Shield); this was massively emphasised at the two thousand and thirteen Survivor Series pay per view. Teaming up with his fellow Shield brothers along with Cesaro and Jack Swagger the five superstars took on the babyface alliance of Goldust, Cody Rhodes, Rey Mysterio, and The Usos. A solid match there was a lot to enjoy however the heels, in this case, didn’t have the dominant star they were hoping for and come the end it was Reigns left with the numbers against him as he looked to take the win. As the sole survivor Reigns proved himself massively on this night. He has the fans in attendance behind him despite sporting the role of a heel, he left the WWE universe impressed and proved once and for he was most certainly one of the biggest and most promising stars on the roster.

The Night After Taker Win

I’ll admit that I wasn’t the biggest fan of the singles one on one main event between the Undertaker and Roman Reigns at Wrestlemania. The bout wasn’t one that went down well with fans worldwide despite the two big names taking part. However, while the bout wasn’t the most memorable in the sense of what we actually saw in the ring, Reign’s performance the following night on RAW was a major talking point and turning point in his career. Throughout his main roster run with the WWE Reigns has struggled to win over hardcore fans and so a win over the biggest name in the history of this industry left a bitter taste and so when he appeared on Monday night RAW less than twenty-four hours later he was bombarded with an array of boos and verbal abuse from the live crowd. Struggling to get a word in edgeways Reigns was eventually able to utter the simple words “This is my yard now”. The moment was so perfect, so well done, and the timing could not have been doubted. While this didn’t leave to the heel turn it should have the short and simple promo further got under the skin of fans, made him an even bigger talking point and went down as one of the single best and most controversial moments of his career so far.

VS AJ Styles

Regardless of what you may think of the career so far of Roman Reigns you simply cannot deny the fact that he has without a doubt been apart of many excellent matches against an array of opponents. Whether it be Braun Strowman, Seth Rollins, or Brock Lesnar, there are several bouts in which Reigns proved he can be apart of heavily talked about well-executed wrestling matches but for me, it was his rivalry with AJ Styles that stands out the match. For any up and coming wrestler, it's not an easy task to walk into the ring with Style sand try and come out the standout, however, this was a major careering changing moment for Reigns in which saw him show exactly what he can do in the ring. While Styles remained the man, many had their eyes on when you go back and watch the matches between these two, Roman truly did showcase his in-ring capabilities. He was pushed to his limits, has an excellent performance and provided genuinely entertaining and strong wrestling matches I must say I did re-watch.

Royal Rumble

I’ve entitled this next part “Royal Rumble” for the sheer fact that Reigns has been a standout performer in several Rumble pay per view events making this a night annually where he makes one heck of an impact. Whether it be his performance in twenty fourteen that saw him make history by eliminating eleven men in the rumble when the following year Reigns was apart of one of the most controversial performances in recent wrestling history. After taking home the victory in twenty fifteen fans in attendance provided one of the most intense reactions again, in recent wrestling history. The reaction from fans in the arena and at home was one of the most shocking and irreversible we had ever seen and while it highlighted a strong hatred towards rights there simply was no one who could generate such a reaction and as a result further established just how big of an impact he was making in the company. The Rumble has proven to be a night in which Roman makes history, steals the show, and leaves the WWE Universe with plenty to discuss and very much vocal.

John Cena Promo

The rivalry between John Cena and Roman Reigns is one that has always had great potential and despite the two being greatly controversial, there was a huge buzz around their collision. I myself was very excited and the WWE Universe were left with plenty to discuss and be excited about. The build to their inevitable match was one that had everyone excited and got the entire WWE Fanbase talking! Gripping and intense promos highlighted the on mic magic these two could present but showcased Reigns to be the badass he could truly be given the freedom on the mic and the chance to show it. This was some of the most convincing and interesting mic work from Reigns and a turn around when it came to criticism, he gets around his promo skills.

And those were just a few of the best and most controversial moments in the career of Roman Reigns. Of course, there are so many other moments we could have discussed but what are your favourite and most memorable of them all?
