Highs and Lows From WWE Elimination Chamber 2019

Last night the WWE took another stop on the road to Wrestlemania when the two thousand and nineteen Elimination Chamber took place. Airing live from Houston, Texas, the night gave fans everything from new champions, surprises, historic moments and greater build to the up and coming Mania event. In today’s blog post we are going to be looking back at the most recent PPV discussing the best and worse moments and what to expect in the coming weeks as we edge even closer to the biggest show of the year.

Split Screens are a NO

The kick-off show isn’t typically something I talk about for each PPV but after the fantastic showing from Buddy Murphy and Akira Tozawa, I just had to discuss the action from the kick-off show this weekend. Now, we have all touched on the fact that the stars of 205LIVE deserve way more credit than they get, and this Cruiserweight contest really did prove exactly that. A highlight match of the month it was clear these two should have been given a spot on the main card but what annoyed me, even more, was the decision to air an interview midway through the match. The split screen made it difficult to pay attention to an awesome match and a very good promo from Xavier Woods. A big mistake!

Everything It Should Have Been

While the ending to the women’s tag team Elimination Chamber match was defiantly on the predictable side there is not a single person in the world who can deny that this opening match was one heck of a contest. Sure to go down as one of the best matches of twenty nineteen this historic matchup was everything it should have been. Nearly an hour in length every single team had an excellent showing all bringing something totally different to the table. The IIConics had the best showing of their main roster career, The Riott Squad proved they have to be tag team champions at some point in the future, Carmella and Naomi proved to be a solid team, Nia Jax was as dominant as ever and Sonya and Mandy were given the spotlight they truly deserved and showed they have a very bright future as both a tag team and singles competitors. This was my personal favourite match of the night and the future of the women’s tag team division is very bright.

Sasha Banks and Bayley Make History

As we touched on already, the end result to the women’s Elimination Chamber tag team match didn’t surprise anyone. Banks and Bayley were pitted as the favourites for the win from the moment the match was first announced and while they weren’t the team I was personally rooting for their performance was truly fantastic and their win sets up plenty for the future!

The Usos Capture Tag Team Gold for the 6th Time

I said it in my prediction post last week, I wasn’t looking forward to this tag team match between the Usos and the Miz/Shane McMahon but the bout wasn’t too bad at all and I did find myself entertained throughout the contest. The end result that saw the Usos pick up their sixth tag team title reign really was a smart move. There had to be a strong tag team as champs heading into Wrestlemania and the Usos are of course the perfect guys for the job. We have an array of matches we could see for the titles at mania and with the Miz announcing he and Maryse are expecting their second child and after his loss last night we can also see plenty of storyline work set up for Miz and Shane heading into Mania also.

Finn Balor Wins the IC Title in very Smart Booking

While I didn’t personally enjoy the Intercontinental championship match between Bobby Lashley and Lio Rush and Finn Balor the end result was very smart, very well done and one that left me with a huge smile on my face. An awesome showing at NXT UK Takeover, a solid performance against Brock Lesnar and now the new IC Champion, twenty nineteen has been a good year for Finn Balor so far. His win last night means if he does make the move to Smackdown LIVE in April we have some very exciting content coming up, the next month will also be exciting to see who he challenges at mania and How Balor won means Bobby Lashley has lost no momentum and his attack on Lio Rush left Lashley with the pop he should have picked up months ago and a much bigger interest in what he has coming up next.

Poor Ruby Riott

If you follow me on twitter you will know that I was not very happy at all with how Ruby Riott was booked during last nights Elimination Chamber PPV. While she, of course, was never going to take the win here she was used so poorly it was shocking. Getting no offence in this was a very short contest that done nothing for Ruby and what’s so frustrating is how this would have been a perfect match to show the world what she is really capable of. A huge opportunity missed here.

Becky Freakin Lynch

Hands down one of the biggest and best moments of the night came from Becky Lynch’s surprise appearance that saw her come out and attack both Charlotte Flair and Ronda Rousey with her crouches. The brutal attack was a true highlight of the night and picked up one of the biggest if not the biggest crowd reaction of the entire show. There really is no taking away the sheer star quality Lynch posses and this segment alone has left me super excited for this weeks episode of RAW.

It didn’t need to be There

One thing that really was evident throughout last nights show was there were matches that really didn’t need to be on the card and a prime example of that is the no DQ match between Corbin and Strowman. Now, this was a good way to end their rivalry, but it did feel as though I was watching a match from Monday night RAW and arguably it could have been saved for tonight’s show.  What I did find interesting was the alliance of Lashley, Corbin and McIntyre being used again, this is defiantly something to really start paying closer attention.

The Kofi Kingston Main event

Looking back at last nights main events it’s evident there is only man we need to talk about, only one man we need to highlight, Kofi Kingston. After eleven long tough years of fighting, he was finally given the moment to shine brighter than ever before. With the entire arena and everyone at home cheering him on it was evident Kingston was the people’s champ. He had the live crowd cheering his name from start to finish and the standing ovation to close the night was well and truly deserved. Now he may not have walked out as champion even though the entire WWE Universe were hoping he would he did walk out of the WWE Championship Elimination Chamber match a new star. This is a man who is more than worthy of one day being WWE champion after a main event that became all about him I truly hope this is a new start for Kofi Kingston.

Overall, the Elimination Chamber was much better than I was expecting it to be. Bother chamber matches were extremely good but it must be pointed out that every other match on the card failed to deliver. We had some important and smart title changes and booking decisions that will affect the road to Wrestlemania greatly! But what did you think? Leave a comment below or tweet me @TezangiVictoria.
