WWE Payback Predictions: Roman Reigns VS AJ Styles

Hello everyone and welcome back to Talk Wrestling World, I hope you are all well and good! So it is prediction week once again as the two thousand and sixteen WWE Payback pay per view approaches. The annual event will take place live this up and coming Sunday on the first of May at the Allstate Arena in one of my favourite Wrestling cities, Chicago! Airing live on the WWE network of course, Payback is set to be an exciting show with Roman Reigns and the phenomenal one AJ Styles main eventing in what is bound to be a controversial yet must see bout for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship. All week long here on my blog I will be making my bold predictions for every single match on the card including that huge main event. I won't however be predicting anything set for the kick off show but I will include the kick off show match in my Review and Reactions post next Monday. On the actual day of the event I will be live tweeting throughout the show and the same the next night for RAW. You guy's know how much I can enjoy writing these posts but I have mentioned before that they can be super time consuming so keep in mind that these are all pre posted two weeks in advance. As usual any recent blog posts will be linked bellow including my most recent RAW Review and Reactions post and Top Five Wednesday post. And finally, you can let me know what your predictions are for each and every match on the Payback card by leaving a comment bellow or by tweeting me at @TezangiVictoria.

After winning a fatal four way match against Chris Jericho, Kevin Owens, and a returning Cesaro, AJ Styles will challenge Roman Reigns this up and coming Sunday for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship. With so many rumours surfacing the internet and the debut of Bullet Club also taking place a couple of weeks back everyone has their own speculations about this bout but who will really be walking out of Sunday's pay per view with the WWE World Heavyweight Championship around their waist? In today's blog post we are taking a look back at what both these superstars have been up to in recent weeks and I will be making my final bold predictions for what is bound to be a must see main event.

Since arriving in the WWE only four months ago at the Royal Rumble pay per view, AJ Styles has fitted into the roster perfectly and made his presence known very very well. Challenging future hall of famer and one of the most decorated names inn WWE history, Chris Jericho, in his first WWE feud the phenomenal one found himself competing in outstanding matches on pay per view and faced off against the man himself in his first Wrestlemania less than a month ago in Dallas Texas. Now, of course I have to talk about Wrestlemania in this blog post. I will be honest, I did really enjoy the match up between Styles and Jericho. Despite the fact that we had already seen them go compete against one another on three separate occasions they told a decent story in the ring and the wrestling was of such a high quality that you genuinely did not want to take your eyes off the TV and I know I was left very entertained by the two of them. However, there was a clear theme throughout this years Mania event and that was poor booking decisions. I honestly think there were two matches on the entire card (including the kick off) that were actually booked right, and this was not one of them. I mentioned in my prediction post for that match (witch will be linked bellow) that I was one hundred and ten percent confident that Styles would be the one walking away with the victory. In my eyes it was plain and simple. With Styles being so new to the company and needed the victory much much more than Jericho did this appeared to be one the most predicable matches on the card. However, the WWE went down a completely different direction and had Jericho get the win cleanly at the grandest stage of them all. Call me crazy, but every single part of me to this day believed that AJ Styles should have got the win at his first ever Wrestlemania.

In the meantime we have also seen Styles take on the likes of Kevin Ownes, The Miz and more to build momentum and add to his growing resume of brilliant and memorable matches. The hard work and reaction from the WWE universe soon paid off as on the RAW after Wrestlemania he competed alongside Kevin Owens, Chris Jericho, and Cesaro for the chance to compete at the Payback pay per view for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship. His performance on the night was nothing but phenomenal. Proving why he was one of the hottest stars in the WWE today, Styles took advantage of the opportunity and fought hard to earn number one contendership and by the end of the night it was he who had his arm raised high in the air and the winner of what was a brilliant fatal four way match. That means that only four months into his WWE debut, AJ Styles has found himself competing for the most prestigious prize in professional Wrestling. But can he win the big one this Sunday?

I don't think there is anyone that can say they were genuinely surprised to see Roman Reigns walk out of Dallas Texas at Wrestlemania last month with the WWE World Heavyweight Championship. After feuding with Triple H/ The Authority for several months the leader of the Roman empire finally knocked off the bad guys and walked away with the most prestigious prize in the WWE. If I'm being completely honest I struggled to get into the championship main event at Mania. Me and my brother kind of just sat down bored, tired, and not interested too busy talking about what we think the WWE should be doing. It was such a predicable match and nothing apart from Reigns spearing Stephanie really grabbed my attention throughout the entirety of the match. I know we have all been saying this for so long now but I honestly do no hate Roman Reigns, my issue is that it is just so clear that it is not his time right now. Everything feels so forced with him and it's actually got the point now where it doesn't even make me angry I just have no interest in anything and everything he does. Throughout the entire build up to the Wrestlemania main event, the WWE did everything they could to try and get the fans behind Reigns and more importantly get rid of those boos but it's safe to say that nothing worked. Every single week the WWE made sure to edit the crowd reactions and make the Authority come across so unlike-able that we had to side with Reigns but come Wrestlemania nothing had changed. The reaction he got on the night was unbelievably bad. It was literally over one hundred thousand people booing him out of the arena and it was almost cringe worthy watching. The following night saw an identical reaction from the live crowd and in recent weeks nothing has really changed at all.

On the night after Wrestlemania Reigns came down to the ring to celebrate his victory and while he did not turn heel (something that the entire world is waiting to see) he did sport a new change in attitude. Standing in the centre of the ring Reigns told the WWE Universe he was not a bad guy nor a good guy while wearing a smug little smile on his face. It was at this moment at we all kind of sat there thinking is this going to be his heel turn? Is Roman Reigns finally going to be put in the direction that he needs to be in? Now, while they did not turn him full on heel on the night the little change in attitude was almost enough for me to gain some actual interest. This was the first night that I actually started to see some clear direction for Reigns and something strong for him in the future that can get everyone on board. The problem is is that the WWE have gone so wrong with him throughout his career that changing the general opinion of him is going to be difficult and they are going to have to come up with something very very strong for him to get everyone interested. I do think most people believe that the best thing for him is a heel turn. There is no doubt about that. In recent weeks we have seen a glimpse of what he is capable of and what he can possibly do working as a heel and we all know that there is nothing better for him and in the long run it will be the best decision the WWE could make. In recent weeks we have seen Reigns cut very very similar promos
that haven't really done him much good. We all get the message he is trying to get across, he doesn't need to repeat himself week in and week out, we want to see and hear something different from him whenever he picks up that mic. Throughout the build up to this match Reigns has wanted to drum into Styles and the WWE universe that he's new around here and that he needs to earn right to become the man and hold the WWE World Heavyweight Championship. Ironic. The booking for Reigns has actually been pretty good. I liked the tag team match he competed in a couple of weeks back when he was forced to side with Bray Wyatt. The WWE are slowly going in the right direction with Reigns but this Sunday will be the deciding factor.

Despite the flaws I am really looking forward to this match. A lot more than I was expecting too. It's refreshing seeing a new set of faces in the main event/championship picture and I love the fact that Styles is the man competing for the gold this Sunday at Payback. These two superstars are very very different. Their styles are different, their image is different, their in ring capabilities and experience level is different however saying all that I do believe that with enough time and with a good enough story being told they can put on a pretty strong main event. With the amount of experience and skill Styles has he can really get a good match out of Roman and push him to his limits a lot more than past opponents including Triple H possibly could. There is of course a size difference in this match and it will be that along with the fact that Reigns has the momentum of being champion that will give him the upper hand in this match but of course with the roll Styles has been on and everything we have already touched on today with Styles means he is not going into this match at a lesser advantage than Roman. Now, how this match is booked is going to be very interesting. I highly doubt that the WWE will have Styles loose cleanly. I don't think they would ever be able to pull off a legitimate clean win for Reigns over Styles without the fans going absolutely mental and without the arena causing a riot, especially because this is going to be a Chicago crowd on Sunday. Because this is the WWE there is apart of me that is of course expecting it and I won't be surprised if this is how the match is booked, just a clean win for Reigns but with the reaction it is bound to get I'm hopeing the WWE give us what we want and provide a little twist.

A couple of weeks back we saw the much anticipated WWE debut of Doc Gallows and Karl Anderson aka Bullet Club. Their surprise arrival sent everyone including myself crazy with excitement but it also got everything talking and making their predictions for the Payback main event. A strong majority of people really do believe that Gallows and Anderson will be making another appearance at Payback in the main event, helping AJ Styles pick p the victory and win
championship gold. Now, for me this does work and I love the idea but I would maybe change a couple of things up. Let's say Roman Reigns does win cleanly but after the match we see Bullet Club attack Reigns to close the show and set up an opening segment for the RAW to follow. This would allow Styles and Reigns to feud a little longer making Reigns' title reign that bit longer and eventually we get what we want witch of course is AJ Styles as the WWE World Heavyweight Champion thanks to the help of Bullet Club at the next pay per view. This in my eyes sets up my dream storyline witch involves Styles working with Bullet Club for a thew months only for Gallows and Anderson to turn on him when Finn Balor debuts later on in the year and allowing the NXT star to capture the WWE World Heavyweight Championship. I know that's a little far fetched and a lot to predict and talk about at the moment and I am going to go into more detail with that a little later on. However, with Finn Balor dropping the NXT Championship last week to Samoa Joe it has started speculation that Balor will debut this weekend at the Payback pay per view costing AJ Styles the match up setting up that must see AJ Styles VS Bullet Club feud. There is of course the possibility that Bullet Club could play a role in this match however instead of helping Styles they actually assist Reigns in the win finally turning him heel.

To be fair there is a lot the WWE can do with the ending of this match. How it is booked is going to be very interesting and the match itself has a lot of potential if they are given enough time witch I'm expecting they will do. As always I will be live tweeting throughout the show and you can let me know what your predictions are for this match and every other match on the Payback card by leaving a comment bellow or by tweeting me at @TezangiVictoria.
