Fastlane Predictions: John Cena VS Rusev

Hello everyone and welcome back to Talk Wrestling World, I hope you are all well. This Sunday the WWE will present the first ever Fastlane pay per view, live on the WWE Network (remember all knew subscribers get the whole of February free). It was announced late last year that the Elimination Chamber pay per view was no longer going to be taking place and even though I was upset about the news at first the reality of it is is that there is no need for the show any more. Anyway, this week is officially prediction week and witch means throughout the next six days I will be uploading my predictions for each match on the card. You all know by now this is something I do monthly for every pay per view and they seem to be pretty popular. None of the posts in my prediction series have been influenced by any of my followers or readers but I would love to hear what you all think. Wrestlemania season has also already started on my blog. I was going to start the series later but I decided to kick start everything almost a month early, so lucky you. The links to any recent posts will be listed bellow including my NXT Takeover Rival Review and Reactions and my recent post in Wrestlemania season. Finally, you can let me know what your predictions for the show are and what posts you would like to see in Wrestlemania season by leaving a comment bellow or by tweeting me at @TezangiVictoria. I will also be live tweeting on Sunday throughout the show.

This Sunday Rusev will put he's United States championship on the line when he takes on the fifteen time World champion, John Cena for the first time ever. With Rusev dominating the roster for almost a year and still holding a undefeated record, will we finally see Rusev get pinned or submitted this weekend? Will the Cena become the new United States champion? Will we see the two compete at Wrestlemania? And what will a loss do to Rusev in he's early career? Today I'm going to be answering all those questions and many more, taking a look at Rusev's career so far and what are the most possible outcomes. Let's get into it.

From the moment Rusev made he's way to a main roster ring back at the two thousand ad fourteen Royal Rumble, he has been dominating the roster. Admittedly it was a slow start and it took a while for him to connect with the crowd and prove he was a superstar to pay really close attention too. He spent the first thew months picking up wins and being in mini feuds with the likes of Big E ans scoring wins on RAW and Smackdown over superstars such as Zack Ryder and Heath Slater. He then entered he's first big feud with Jack Swagger. Now, I had really high hopes for this feud and once again the WWE just failed to live up to those expectations. I spoke a lot about this last year so I won't go into it again. Over the past four months or so Rusev really has come into he's own. He's found he's place on the main roster and he has been really impressing me.  He has a really diverse move set and a very unique style in the ring. With Rusev however, booking is extremely important. The squash matches don't work as well because we don't get to see the more of him, he needs to be challenged and the longer he's in the ring the better. He's matches against Sheamus, Swagger and Reigns have bee the best we have seen of him also he's Survivor Series performance was strong. When the put the United States championship on him I honestly thought it was more than the right move to make. It makes so much sense for him to hold that particular championship. I don't think we have seen enough title defences at all and we do need to see more. Since coming up from NXT Rusev and Lana have been two of the top heels in the company and get a genuine reaction from the WWE Universe. Putting the US championship on him was a really good move and allowed him to really go even further with how much of a major heel he is. The fact he is yet to be submitted or pinned says a lot about Rusev and the way the WWE view him, personally I think that the winning streak needs to continue and Cena must loose cleanly to Rusev

As for Cena, he of course has had an amazing past year and even though the WWE universe continue to give him serious heat for everything he does, we can expect a good amount of fans to be rooting for Cena this weekend for him to end the winning streak of Rusev, even though I doubt that would happen and it would make next to no sense. We all knew that these two superstars would collide at some point it was just a matter of when and with the main event picture so busy right now and Cena not having anything major to do, now was the perfect time, especially with Wrestlemania around the corner.

This weekend Rusev needs to prove himself even more. This is hands down he's toughest challenge yet and it's also the most important. As I already said, we all saw a feud between these two coming, everyone knew we were going to get it, it was just a matter of when. This weekend is extremely important for Rusev and I honestly think a clean win is best for both superstars. Rusev right now is one of the strongest, biggest heels around but this weekend is key in building him up even more as a heel and a clean win over Cena is just what he needs in order to do so and a win over John would also showcase him as a top talent in the company. At the end of the day he is only twenty nine years old but the sooner they portray him as a top star the better. It is likely the match will end in DQ but with  so many DQ wins Rusev needs something much much stronger and it will also add some extra heat to their Wrestlemania match. In my opinion it makes no sense what so ever for Cena to score the win. Yes, I will admit that him being in the picture for the United States championship does add some importance back to the title but having him hold it will do nothing for both Cena and Rusev. It will only through Rusev down the roster and most probably put him at the bottom. As for Cena, holding the US championship would do nothing for him at all and there would be no solid storyline for him.It
would mean that their match for Wrestlemania would be completely pointless. The WWE may want to see Cena winning as simply "over coming the odds" as usual, but then what would be the point him facing Rusev again at the biggest stage of them all just to "overcome the odds once again". If Rusev does defeat Cena cleanly this weekend then it will most certainly mean he will loose to him at Wrestlemania, witch of course will put some smiles on the faces of Cena fans and to be fair it would make more sense. There's no shame what so ever in being defeated by Cena at Wrestlemania, competing against him at the biggest show of the year is an accomplishment in itself and a loss to him then might actually do him some good. But for this weekend that is not what he needs at all. We saw with he's feud with Bray Wyatt last year that the losses against the young, up and coming star, just made them look and demolished a lot of their momentum. Right now, Rusev is at the top, and he has been for months now, a clean loss to Cena would throw all he's hard work down the drain. He needs this win to prove he is a threat in the WWE and someone who will most certainly go far in the WWE, a clean win over Cena will do just that.
