Since arriving in the WWE, Lana has become on of the strongest female characters in recent years. Griping the WWE universe with her amazing mic skills, controversial promos and sexy image, Lana has become one of the most popular female employees. For the past year she has been working alongside the current United States champion Rusev in Russia loving, American hating gimmick, focusing around controversial subjects/ opinions about America. Now, she may receive some heavy boos from live crowds but some may argue she has become more popular than Rusev himself and is the centre of attention when it comes to all things Rusev. But if the gimmick fails for the US champ and he's career does not go the way he plans what will happen to the ravishing Russian? Will she step in the ring herself or will she stay in the role of a manager/advocate? Today, I'm going to be answering some of those questions and take a look at her earlier career in the biggest company in sports entertainment.

Before WWE:
Catherine Joy "C.J" Perry was born on the 24th of March 1985, in Gainesville Florida and would be the oldest of four siblings. Her parents of Portuguese and Venezuelan extraction. She would spend many years of her childhood in Latvian Soviet Republic in the Soviet Union, witch is wear her father worked as a Christian missionary. From an early age Perry would develop a love for Ballet and would aspire to become a Ballet dancer like her mother. She would attend the Riga Choreography school- the ballet school of the Latvian National opera- and began dancing with the Latvian National Ballet at the age of fourteen.
At the age of seventeen, Perry would return to the United States, living in New York, dancing or several schools and companies. Perry would go on to enrol to Florida State University (FSU), majoring in Dance and acting. While attending FSU, Perry began attending Florida State Seminoles football games with several students,  cheering from the bleachers while dressed as cowgirls. The students- known as the "Florida State cowgirls"- entered the public consciousness after being acknowledged by a commentator. She would go on too start modelling.
Upon graduating from FSU, Perry relocated to  Los Angles, California, with the aim of perusing a career in show business.

In 2009, Perry joined a girl group called "No Means Yes" signing to ne-yo's record label. The group realised one single titled "would you like that" and recorded two others before disbanding in 2011. She stated Perry stated on joining "No Means Yes", "A girlfriend of mine in college referred me to the man that was putting the group together. I honestly was so scared to sing and I didn't even know a song to sing at the audition so I sang "Jesus Loves Me." I remember them saying we can work with her tone because she has the right look and she is a model that break dances. She also got a role in the movie pitch perfect and says that she thinks if it wasn't for her being in the girl band she would not have got the role in film. She went on to perform as a back up dancer for singers such as Nelly, Pink, Keri Hilson and Usher. In 2013, Perry starred alongside Kelley Jakle in the music video for the cover of Paramore's "Aint it fun".

After training at an acting school, perry landed roles in episodes such as The Game in 2011, the musical comedy film pitch perfect in 2012, an episode in the television program Banshee in 2013, and pitch perfect two in 2014.She also landed a lead role in I.C.I.R.U.S as Britt in 2011.

NXT:
In June of two thousand and thirteen Perry signed to WWE and began working under the name Lana. In October of two thousand and thirteen Lana started working with rising star Rusev and became a popular face in the WWE developmental territory of NXT. NXT really did give both Lana and Rusev time to grow as characters and when you watch their work from when they were in developmental to
where they are now on the main roster, they have both come a long long way especially Lana.

Mic Skills
Now love her or hate her Lana is hands down one of the best female speakers the WWE have right now and have had in many many years. She know's what to do and say to get under the skin of the WWE universe. She has a natural flow to every single promo she cuts and she knows what to say and how to say it effectively. I honestly think she is one of not many divas who are one hundred per cent comfortable in her character and knows how to work it best. She has only been on the scene a year and she has already made a huge huge impact on the main roster and it's all come from  her mic work, witch says a lot to be honest. I also think it is key to bring up the fact that the accent she uses on screen is put on. Like you didn't know that already. The Russian accent is so fluent and natural it's very very convincing. Lana  makes the perfect heel and know's how to work her character and show it off in the best way using the mic, witch can not be said for many other divas in the locker room. If we take her segment with the Rock for example. She held her own perfectly and her facial expressions added so much more effect to it all. Mic skills are so so important, it's not enough to be a great wrestler, if you don't have the character and mic skills than your just not going to connect with the fans at all. Lana realises that and knows that she only has one big role, and that's to sell Rusev and he's matches and she does that extremely well.

Wrestling ability
Some of you may not know that Lana can actually wrestle and she can wrestle pretty damn good. Now, so far we haven't seen any of her wrestling ability on TV but if you have  a look around the internet you can find some footage of her training. I have mentioned before that I think she would be a great addition to the divas wrestling roster, but I do think the transitions to what she is doing to wrestling will be hard to make, and she would be better off staying in the role of a manager/ advocate. I will go into that more later on in the post but the fact she can also wrestle really does mean it opens up to many other doors for her for the future.

What she has done so far/Storyline
So far Lana has been the centre piece of Rusev's feud and let's be honest, he wouldn't be where he is right now if she wasn't on the scene. She has carried he's feuds so strongly and has been the one to get us interested in each and everyone of them and that all comes down to her amazing mic skills. She has a way of getting under the skin of the WWE universe will pushing Rusev at the same time. She recently appeared on the Total Divas after show also, With Renee Young and Summer Rae where she stayed one hundred per cent in character and showed so much personality.

If  Rusev's career was ever to go down hill, I think it's more than safe to say Lana will be just fine. She has proven over the past year that she is an extremely talented speaker who knows her audience well. She is one of the best female heels ever to step foot in the WWE and we really have seen her grow since she first arrived in the WWE two years ago. There's also the fact that she is a talented in ring wrestler, amazing mic work and has a great character and personality means that there is no chance anything is going down hill for Lana if anything was to happen to Rusev. She has a great, markable look and the things they could do with her is endless. Personally I think she would be better staying in the role of a advocate/manager, as I mentioned before, I think transferring her into a wrestler would be difficult and she's so good in her role right now it would make no sense to stop her doing what she's so good at doing. I honestly think she would be great managing new stars coming up to the main roster or even some of the talent that have been on the roster for a long time but need a new direction. Either way, Lana has a long, strong career on her hands and there are so many opportunities for her with or without Rusev.
