Get to know: Sasha Banks
So this week's get to know is Sasha Banks. Now some of you may know her some of you may not. She's currently working in NXT as a WWE diva and has been since 2012. Now although she's new to the WWE she's far from inexperienced. Mercedes Kaestner- Varnado was born in Fairfield California on January 26 1992 (22). She's also the cousin of Snoop Dog.She's been wrestling since 2010 and made her in ring debut at Chaotic Wrestling, as Mercedes KV (were she was trained) on October 1st in an intergender tag team match where she teamed with Nikki Roxx to face Alexxis and Danny E, however Mercedes and Roxx didn't manage to pick up the win. From then on Mercedes and Roxx quickly formed and alliance, teaming with each other regularly and accompanying each other to the ring. Mercedes lost her debut singles match to Danny E On October 22 and lost her re-match against him in November. On the 7th of January 2011 Mercedes got her first victory in tag team competition where she and Roxx defeated Alexxis and Mistress Belmont. On February 11 Mercedes took part in a 5 women gauntlet match to determine the inaugural Chaotic Wrestling Women's champion but was unsuccessful. Throughout the rest of the year she continued to compete in singles competition and on December 2nd in an I quit match Mercedes defeated Alexxis for the Championship.She had her first successful title defence against Barbie on January 6. KV held the title for 260 days were it came to an end when she signed a contract with WWE. In her title reign she beat the likes of Alexxis in a re- match, Alexxis, Barbie and Mistress Belmont in a fatal 4 way and Adia Marie. at 182 days she became the longest reigning Chaotic wresting women's champion .
On August 8 Mercedes made her New England Championship wrestling debut teaming with Ivy to get the win over Ariel and Sammi Lane. On September 4th of 2011 she made her return once again teaming with Ivy defeating Mistress Belmont and Veda Scott. September 23 she picked up the win against Mistress Belmont and when she returned again on July 14 2012, she she was defeated against Adrianna in a Red white and Bruised match. In November 19 2010 KV debuted in NWA under the ring name Miss Mercedes and faced Julian Starr in a loosing effort. During her time in NWA she feuded with The Great Cheyennna and had some pretty good singles matches.
In June 2012 KV participated in a tryout camp for WWE and was announced that she had been signed to a
contract, were she was sent on NXT under the ring name Sasha Banks. Her NXT TV debut was on December 12, 2012 loosing to Paige.Her first TV win was on January 23 2013 against Alicia Fox. She also had a feud with Audrey Marie and during the feud teamed up with Naomi and Cameron in six diva tag team competition. She also competed in the tournament to crown the first ever NXT women's champion but Lost against Summer Rae in the first round. After week's of influence by Summer Rae to make herself relevant, Sasha was defeated in a one on one match against NXT women's champion Paige on September 11. After the match Paige tried to console an upset Sasha Banks however Sasha attacked Paige leading to her heel turn. Her first match as a heel was against Bayley on September 25 with Summer Rae in her corner. After the match Banks and Rae cut a promo together debuting new gimmick "The boss" creating a tag team called the BFF's (beautiful fierce females), later on in November Charlotte joined the team.
Up until now the three divas have been an entertaining team. They brought attitude and fierceness to there division and each one of them proved that they are more than worthy of being here. When Summer went off to film and be more apart of the main roster it left Sasha and Charlotte together alone but they continued to dominate there division in both tag team and singles matches. However the spotlight has mainly been on Charlotte and now as the new NXT women's champion it's Charlotte everyone is talking about. As of recently Sasha hasn't had much in ring or TV time and the last time we saw her was in a back stage segment with Summer. Personally I love Sasha. I think she's one of the best divas the WWE have at the moment. At only 22 she has lots of time to grow and has heap's of experience. I will leave the links to some video's of her matches before WWE. The girl is extremely talented and still has so much more to show. She can counter well, she's pretty good on the mic, she executes moves nicely, she has a nice set of moves and her submissions are done to perfection. She also has loads of character, she has shown that she can pull off both a heel and baby face. I do think it's about time the WWE start taking her a little more seriously. I'd love to see her as NXT women's champion before she is put on the main roster, I think that way it will boost her popularity and allow the fans to understand her more and see more of what she can do. This year already she was also part of Triple H's entrance at Wrestlemania as one of the dancers alongside partner Charlotte. Personally I'd love to see her as a heel once she goes up to the main roster, I think the crowd have a better connection with her as a heel and she play's it really well. She pretty much has everything, She's young, good looking and very very talented.Give her time she could be one of the best divas of this era, she reminds me of a younger more fierce AJ Lee with more of a move set. I'd love to see her make her main roster debut some time next year, maybe around Extreme Rules after a fair title reign.
