5 Of the Best Divas Champions Of All Time
5) Paige
Kicking off my top five Divas champions list is the most recent of champs, twenty two year old Brit, Paige. The night after Wrestlemania thirty saw the much anticipated debut of NXT star Paige. While still being the NXT Women's champion, Paige arrived on RAW during an AJ Lee promo claiming she was there to simply congratulate AJ on her win the previous night. The whole thing led to AJ demanding a one on one match right then and there against Paige and she would be putting her title on the line. The match itself was dominated by AJ until Paige was able to quickly hit the Paige turner and score the win, becoming the youngest divas champion in history at only twenty one. Her win itself was enough to put her in the list but her reign despite being weak allowed her to really prove she wasn't just some rookie from NXT. She took on everyone who got in her way and tried to take the title off of her including, Tamina, Naomi and Cameron. Then at the Summer Slam pay per view Paige became a two time divas champion after winning it back from AJ Lee. Another amazing performance at the Night of Champions pay per view in a triple threat match against AJ Lee and Nikki Bella, contributed to her being added into this list. At only twenty two years old and less than a year of working on the main roster, Paige has become a two time divas champion and has really changed and shacked things up on the main roster.
4) Eve Torres
Up next at number four is three time divas champion Eve Torres. I mentioned in another post that I was never a huge fan of Eve, for some reason I just never connected with her character or was all that bothered about her but there was no denying that simple fact that she was an amazing wrestler. Eve Torres was one of the most athletic divas the WWE had (alongside Naomi of course). The first time Eve one the divas championship was back in two thousand and ten when she made history becoming the first divas search winner to capture the divas championship. She did so after pinning Maryse using a reversal into a bridge pin on an episode of Monday night RAW.Her second win came from the fatal four way match up at the Royal Rumble Pay per view in two thousand and eleven. Her third and final title rein would start when she defeated Layla at Night of champions in two thousand and twelve. Throughout Eve's time in the WWE she proved she could work both an amazing baby face and heel connecting with fans with both persona's. Even though she had a limited character she owned it in the ring and made us believe everything she said and did. She was by far the most athletic divas champion of all time and changed a lot of opinions about women in the WWE and what they can do in the ring.
3) Michelle McCool
At number three in my top five divas champions is the first ever divas champion Michelle McCool. In July of two thousand and eight Michelle McCool defeated Natalya to become the first ever Divas Champion. She would go on to capture the title again in two thousand and ten becoming a two time divas champion. Michelle also made history in her career becoming the first diva to hold both the Women's and divas championship. I think its more than safe to sat the Michelle is one of the all time greats when it comes to the WWE and the divas division. She made history and was one of the most captivating women in the WWE, working well as a both a baby face and as a heel. It was also clear that Michelle was one of the all time best heel divas of all time. She set the bar extremely high for all the other divas to follow who would hold that championship and is clearly a future all of famer.
2) Maryse
Coming in at number two in my top five divas champions of all time is Maryse. I think mentioned in a previous post, probably one of my first (If I can find it I will leave the link to it bellow), that whenever I thought of the divas championship I thought of Maryse. For some reason I remember always seeing Maryse with the championship and owning it. I've always looked up Maryse and I think she really did change things up in the WWE divas division. She was one of the best diva heels in the history of the WWE and was involved in some great matches and storyline. Maryse became the second Divas champion in history when she defeated Michelle McCool on the twenty second of
1) AJ Lee
Finally, at number one in my top five WWE Divas champions is of course the one and only, AJ Lee. When I was writing this list the number one spot was easy. There was no other women more worthy of being crowned my number divas champion than AJ Lee. AJ's career started out in FCW until she was called up to appear on season three of NXT where she was a huge hit with the fans straight away. Despite no winning AJ was soon on the main roster debuting on Smackdown. After months of building her up it became clear the WWE had huge plans for Lee and she became the centre point of big main event storyline's/ She was put in romance storyline's with top names such as Dolph Ziggler, Kane,CM Punk, Daniel Bryan and even John Cena, adopting an all new persona as she moved on to each guy and also become one of the most popular WWE divas of all time. She first one the divas championship back at the Battleground pay per view against Kaitlyn. Since then she has become the longest reigning Divas champion of all time, a three time divas champion (winning the title twice in one year),and two time slammy award winner for diva of the year. She has the best selling divas merchandise of all time and a massive following of both men and women around the world. She has single handedly changed the vision of the WWE divas division and has earned herself a place at the top as one of the best WWE divas of all time.
