Diva Of The Year: Paige

Hello everyone and welcome back to Talk Wrestling World. So it's December and as you will already know throughout the month I will be giving you my official top tens, twenty. superstar of the year, diva of the year and plenty more. Kind of like my very own version of the slammys. All of the posts in this series are my own opinion and have not been influenced by anyone including my readers. That being  said,I would still love for you to contribute and let me know what else you would like to see in this series and who YOU think is the diva of the year by leaving a comment bellow in the comments section or by tweeting me at @TezangiVictoria. As always I will leave the links bellow to any other recent post so you can stay up to date and give them a read if you have not  already done so.

This year I really wanted to take a deeper look into the divas division and to be fair it's been a really good year of the women of the WWE. I know we all criticize Total Divas, but the truth of the matter is that it has helped the divas division dramatically and they have had one of the best years in a very very long time. We have had several long and interesting feuds and storyline's and we have gone from having a minimum of one divas match a night on RAW to up to three and having several storyline's active at once. Because of this, many divas have stood out and so it was really difficult deciding who would be my diva of the year. However once I looked back at everything from the entire year it became clear there was only one girl who deserved the number one spot. One women who has dominated the whole year. That women is the anti diva herself, Paige.

Paige has had one of the best years a diva or WWE superstar could ever have. She started off in January as an NXT diva and the NXT Women's champion and to be honest she was hands down the face of her division over in NXT. Everyone was talking about the diva of tomorrow and everyone wanted to see her in action every single week, and she did not disappoint what so ever. Every single week she would make it clear why she was here and what her goal was, and that was to prove she was and is the best at what she does. She never turnt down any challengers and became the most intresting diva on the NXT roster. At the fist live NXT show, NXT Arrival, Paige defended her women's championship against the women she stepped in the ring with in the finals to be crowned the first ever NXT women's champion, Emma. Now If you haven't already seen this match I really do advise you to go and check it out because trust me it was one of the best divas matches of the year and I'm sure anyone who has watched will agree. Rocking a new attire Paige made her way to the ring looking amazing and having on heck of a reaction from the Florida based crowd. Her character throughout the  match was great and she really kept the crowd into what was going on in the ring and didn't make it come across predictable what so ever. The match itself was great. Both divas put on an amazing, true wrestling match that had everything you wanted in any wrestling match up. And after showing plenty of new stuff in the ring, Paige picked up a strong win, retaining her championship. Throughout her time on NXT this year, Paige had several amazing matches against the likes of Sasha Banks and Summer Rae, witch once again I advise you all to go and check out if you haven't seen them already. All of a sudden Paige made history becoming the youngest ever divas champion and of
course being the one diva to be knock off AJ Lee.

From that point onwards Paige went on a crazy winning streak and made it clear that she was one not to underestimate. She proved she may be young but she is just as experienced and talented as any other diva on the roster. As the divas champion she didn't turn down any competition. Her first little feud with is with Tamina, the muscle for AJ Lee. Of course a lot of people doubted Paige, after all she was set to step in the ring with one monster of a diva, both older and stronger than her. But this was a great move by WWE. It may have been a pretty bad little feud but it built her up really well and proved to the WWE universe she was a strong competitor who we should all be watching out for. At extreme rules Paige knocked off Tamina in what was a short match but long enough to make Paige look really good. On the momentum build Paige was set for another challenge and she faced it head on. She would step in the ring with two of WWE's most talented divas, Alicia Fox and Naomi having some truly amazing matches. Her feud with Alicia was when Paige picked up her first loss but the storyline was done pretty well and Paige had some great moments in it. I think this was when everyone began to get used to Paige and realised she was here to stay. Her Money in the bank match up with Naomi was one of her best matches of the year on the main roster. She showed some new moves in the ring and was entertaining throughout. The commentators even mentioned she had become a submission expert in her division.

A thew months after being out of action, AJ Lee made her return to the WWE during a promo being delivered by the divas champion herself, Paige. This was the exact definition of poetic justice, as after claiming she was here to stay Paige was stunned to see AJ's theme echo through the arena and see the women she took the championship from skip her way down to the ring. Paige would go on to defend her championship right then and there and after dominating 98% of the match out of nowhere AJ got a quick roll up and became a two time divas champion. This of course led to that one feud we had been waiting for for over a year, the AJ Lee/Paige feud. Now a lot of people, including myself were very disappoint with this feud. It simply failed to live up to the expectations. I did a post on this and I will make sure to leave the link to that post as well bellow. However it was entertaining and Paige worked her ass off. Having the frenemi  storyline really did set Paige on an interesting journey but she played it really well and was actually pretty funny; weather you liked her work here or not, everyone was talking about her. After tuning heel attacking AJ out of nowhere after a tag match, the two head yet another match at Summer Slam, on Paige's 22nd birthday and she became a two time divas champion. The feuded for a little longer and Paige dropped the title at Night of champions in a triple threat match, witch was easily one of the best divas matches of the year also. She tried re-capturing the championship at Hell In A Cell but failed after what was a great  match.

This year Paige has earned the right to be called the diva of the year. She had several amazing matches on NXT before coming up to the main roster. She had debuted on RAW the night after Wrestlemania, getting a huge pop from the crowd, and defeating AJ becoming the new and youngest divas champion. This made her the first diva to hold both the NXT Women's championship and the WWE Divas championship. She was either defended or competed for the divas championship every single month from April to October at every single Pay per view. She was apart of the Survivor Series traditional divas match up. She showed improvement in her mic skills every single time she was given a mic. She was apart of one of the biggest diva storyline's of the year, had some of the best divas matches on the main roster of the year, and was announced as the newest cast member of title divas. This year has been the year of the anti diva. Every month has been Paige month and weather if you love her or hate her, she has played a major role throughout this year.
