Divas Match Of The Year: Charlotte VS Sasha Banks

Hello everyone and welcome back to Talk Wrestling World. We have finally reached December and as you already know throughout the month I have been uploading my official "Of The Year" posts; these have included diva of the year, match of the year, superstar of the year and plenty plenty more. Throughout the series I have mainly focused on the main roster superstars and divas and haven't really included many NXT based posts. However, today it's time to crown my divas match of the year and I didn't even have to look over the divas action of the year to know what would come in as number one. That being said, I did already write this post up but after watching last week's fourth live NXT show my mind completely changed and a new match became my divas match of the year. If you would still like me to upload the first one I did please let me know by leaving a comment bellow or by tweeting me at @TezangiVictoria. I will also leave the links bellow to any recent posts so you can keep up to date on all of those.

So, as I mentioned in the intro, I did already write my "Divas match of the year" post last month because a lot of my posts for this month were pre written, however after the last week's match up between Sasha Banks and Charlotte everything changed, a it was time to crown a new divas match of the year...

As you all probably would of seen by now, last week the WWE presented the fourth live NXT show of the year and the divas match of the night would turn out to be one of the best female professional wrestling matches to ever come out of World Wrestling Entertainment. Trust me I'm not over exaggerating if you haven't seen this match. On the night Charlotte, daughter of two time Hall of Famer Ric Flair, was set to defend her NXT women's championship against the self proclaimed "boss" Sasha Banks.  The two had a really strong build up that unlike the main roster work from the female talent, it wasn't over the top and based on stereo types. This is something that has played a huge role over the whole year. I have mentioned it before so I won't go too into it but if we look at the current storyline between AJ Lee and Nikki Bella compared to Sasha and Charlotte's feud. While on the main roster we have slut shaming, poor wrestling work and no passion over in NXT the divas storyline's are just as strong as the superstars. Charlotte and Banks have had their feud focus around Sasha rising to the top and her journey, learning that being the nice girl doesn't get her far. This played a huge role in the build up to their match. People actually wanted to watch this match and the unpredictability of it made it all that much better.

Throughout the whole year I have been talking about Sasha Banks, I'm sure all of you are beyond sick and tired of reading my tweets and blog posts about how much I love Sasha and hyping her up. I think the problem was was that we hadn't seen enough of her in the ring. Th WWE have focused so much on her character that we hadn't seen enough of her in the ring and what she is really capable of in the ring. I personally,  have been watching Sasha from before she arrived in the WWE and that's where I became such a huge fan of hers, and knew what she could really do inside the ring. I don't
know how many of you have seen her work from the Indies but you seriously have to check it out so I will leave some links bellow to some of my favourite matches of her's from before WWE.

As for Charlotte, it's been an interesting journey for Charlotte. I started out not a fan at all. I didn't like how she was being used, didn't like the image they gave her and thought she needed some work, especially with her character. When they had her work with Banks and Summer Rae as part of the Beautiful Fierce Females my opinions slowly began to change but it still didn't feel right. The turning point for Charlotte was of course at NXT Takeover when she won the NXT Women's championship. It was then I became a huge fan of Charlotte and began to really believe in her.

The match up between Charlotte and Sasha Banks was simply outstanding. Every single live NXT show divas match has been epic and they had a lot to live up to but they managed to do what seemed like the impossible and made it the best divas match to come out of NXT to date. It had pretty much everything you could want in not just a divas match but any match. The first thing I'm going to talk about is personality and character. Both girls maintained such amazing character and personality throughout the entire match and when you're full of excitement, anticipation, adrenaline and trying to focus on the actual match and execution of moves it's such a difficult job to stay in role and keep the crowd captivated the best way you can. These girls did that though last week, effortlessly.  I think it's fair to say that we focus on Banks her when it comes to this topic. She was on fire last night and her character throughout was amazing. From the very beginning to the very end she remained simply as the Boss and made us believe everything. It was the little thing's she did in the ring last week that played with the emotions of both Charlotte and the NXT universe, like mocking Ric Flair, using Charlotte's own moves on her. It's little things like that that make a match, that keep you wanting more, that gives you the excitement  and entertainment that could be missing from a match.
There was then of course the physicality and athleticism. the reality of it is is that these girls did stuff in the ring that we have never before been seen done by WWE divas. They took things to the next level and proved once and for all women can do just as much as man can in the ring and only better. We had suicide dives, spears, the electric chair, Charlotte even hit her finisher from the top rope. Sasha proved to be a submission specialist and amazing all round wrestler, doing stuff in the ring we don't even see main roster superstars do. The action was none stop. Th passion was there. The wrestling ability was outstanding and another thing I must comment on is the crowd. First of all they were an amazing crowd anyway but these girls got not only a "This is awesome" chant but a "this is wrestling" chant. Main roster superstars struggle to get a "this is wrestling" chant and the divas on the main roster, well they struggle to get any reaction. That in itself is an achievment and proves enough. Personally I think this was the night of Sasha Banks and the turning point in her career. You may not like her character but everyone has bags of respect for her now. And as for Charlotte, she has cemented a huge future and has proven she's not just "Ric Flairs daughter" she's Charlotte, future Hall of famer in her own right.
This was not only divas match of the year but one of the best matches of the entire year and one of the best divas matches of all time.

Here is what I wrote about these two in my Review and reactions post:
"We then had the only divas match of the night as Charlotte defended her NXT Women's championship against the boss, Sasha banks. Now, I'm gonna make a bold statement and say this was one of the best divas matches I have ever seen. Probably the best female wrestling match the WWE have produced in ten years. I have been pretty vocal over the past year or so about how much I love Sasha banks, and how I have been following her career for quite sometime. I continuously tweeted and commented on my blog that I think Sasha is one of the best female talents the WWE have right now and have signed in many years and that she was still yet to really show what she can do in the ring in the WWE. Last night Sasha
proved why I have been talking so highly of her and exactly what I have meant all this time. She completely stole the show and proved to be one of the best divas in the WWE today. I think after last night everyone is a converted Sasha Banks fan. You might not like her character but you have to respect her as an in ring performer. The level of physicality and athleticism  in this match was simply outstanding! It was pure wresting that left you remember why you love this business. With around a solid 20 minuets in thee ring they both got to really shine and they had probably the best put together match of the night. What I also really loved about this match was thee character. These two retained the high level of character throughout the whole of the match. Sasha as particularly amazing, continuously mocking Charlotte and her father Ric Flair. This really did make this match that one bit more amazing. This match was just perfection, I could not have asked more of a divas match and they proved that women could do just as much as men can do in the ring. They also got a "this is awesome" and "this is wrestling chant" witch made me just want to cry. It's a big shame we don't get this on the main roster for the female talent. The crowd were amazingly throughout and split between the two girls.Back and fourth match, great crowd reactions and Charlotte retained."
